It’s an unprecedented draft when it comes to the quarterback position, with possibly four passers being drafted in the first five picks, and maybe five or six going in the first round. But maybe the most shocking of all? There’s no clear front-runner.

Each quarterback comes with a significant, complex question. Examining those questions takes us to the heart of great NFL quarterbacking philosophizing.

"Another way to look at this: If the Panthers re-did the 2011 draft knowing what they know now, would they still take Newton with the No. 1 pick? (Maybe it helps Allen that there is no projected Von Miller, Patrick Peterson, Julio Jones, Tyron Smith or J.J. Watt in this draft.)"

Seeing the Allen comparisons to Cam Newton combined with Beane's description of what he thinks a franchise QB is... looks more and more like there's fire with the smoke that the Bills have Allen as their top target... interesting

God I hope not.

 

Newton won the Heisman and a National Championship and was an absolutely dominant college player against the highest level of competition.

 

Allen is a far cry from that.

 

 

This just all feels like NFL coaches and GMs trying to get some other team to bite on Allen so another prospect falls a little further.

After reading that it's hard to believe 4 will go in the top 10. Good read. Hopefully NYG and Denver FO's feel the same way.

Allen isn't Newton though.

 

Newton was a transcendent college player who carried a mediocre Auburn team to a National Title. He just dominated and took over games by himself. He scored 51 TDs in 14 games for Auburn. 

 

Josh Allen is just an athletic guy who struggled in the Mountain West Conference. 

 

The comparison is absurd.

Hey, *I'm* not comparing him to Newton, but others within the scouting community (both in the league and outside it) have made those comps. 

 

As standard practice during this time of year, I'm just playing connect the dots. Scouts compare Allen to Newton... Beane's personal description of a franchise QB sounds an awful lot like a Newton or an Allen... of course it could all be conjecture/smokescreen still. But as we're getting closer and closer to the draft we keep hearing more "Bills dig Allen" stuff from different sources. Either they actually dig him or they're trying to bait another team into taking him.

All the speculation back and forth daily hourly by the minute about the top 4 or top 6... it's going to be funny if/when one of Lauletta or Falk becomes the best QB of the class.

Whichever QB the Bills draft having DAVID CULLEY as the QB coach is a big concern to me.  He has been a long time WR coach.

Hm.... So many Comparisons to Cam Newton... Cam's foot work coming out of college was superior... Cam was more accurate, athletic, and more fleet of foot as a runner. -I really don't see it at all.
