Is this ditching of the "hell factor" as big of a leap in doctrine as the changes in the nature of God between the old and new testaments? God is mean and blood thirsty in Old Testament but loving and good in the New Testament. Christians don't sanction slavery or want to burn homosexuals anymore. Religion can't exist in a "pure form" in a society that has totally changed from the one that created the original religious doctrine. The Roman Catholic Church has to change or die 1

The pope is a Catholic thing, so whatever he says has little or no interest among other Christian faiths. Further, you characterization of "God" in the Old and New Testaments is incorrect. God is God. The Bible is about covenants mad by the same God. The Old Testament is a story about a nation, and the covenant made with them to establish the kingdom of God on earth. They did in the past I'm getting the feeling you aren't particularly well versed in Biblical knowledge, nor have the ability to separate the pope from Christianity. Yes, Christianity did go through a big change there 500 years ago to catch up with Renaissance thought and the more capitalistic society emerging at the time. And yes, in the late 20th century religion continued to evolve as it will keep doing. Thanks again ding bat!
