He was the first black QB to ever start a season (1969) opener in the NFL. He was the first QB I ever saw who 'flicked' the ball, effortlessly.

I feel like the people voting for Elway and Favre are getting fooled a little because those guys threw the ball hard almost all the time. So yeah, they can break fingers and leave "cross hairs" on 20 yard square ins by gunning it but that doesn't mean they had the best arms.

 

Of the guys I saw, my vote if for Jeff George. He could gun it or throw it with touch. Plus he had the release of Dan Marino.. The most physically talented QB I ever saw. The fact that he was just average shows you how much of that position is played with the head.
