The GM for the Tampa Bay Bucs Jason Licht was being interviewed on Good Morning Football on NFL Network and he said something very interesting:

"There are more than 7 players we would love to have so we like our spot, we will get a good player. But right now we are looking at trade back scenarios, who would be there at different spots in the draft. I've gotten some calls already on our pick. It will be interesting to see where some of those QB's go whether it's at 5 or my spot at 7, what's that sweet spot."

Sounds like QB needy teams have contacted them about pick 7 and they seem interested if they are analyzing what that might mean and who would be available if they do trade back. Very interesting indeed!

Watch starting at 4:50 mark...

One of these guys will be there, it's just a question of which one. I'm guessing Rosen or Mayfield at this point, and I am okay either way.

And I think this is what Beane meant when he said "striking distance."

If the Broncos are in on QB we could still be screwed outta the big 4. That's the only way tho

I think #6 is the most interesting spot in the draft, you are looking at Chubb  / Barkley or auctioning off the 4th QB.  That becomes pick #7 if someone like Nelson or Fitzpatrick slides into the top 6.

If the Giants decide to trade the pick I think that happens before the draft.  Otherwise I think the Browns / Colts / Bucs (maybe even the Broncos) are going to wait till the draft and potentially hold the last QB hostage.

Giants and Broncos could both pass...

There are some amazing top 1-3 type prospects that could drop into the later parts of the top 10 just because 4 QBs go in the top handful of picks. That is going to be compelling for some of these teams.

No one can touch the Bills with draft capital if the QB they want is available at 7 (Tampa) or 9 (SF). They can slightly overpay for the player they want and keep a ton of picks. If QB's go 1, 2, 3, 5, then I hope AJ is up for the challenge and Beane has some thick skin.:o

FWIW, someone (not sure if it was WGR or WFAN in New York, feel like it may have been Sal C. on the former) yesterday was hearing rumors that the Broncos, particularly Elway, like Rudolph better than most teams.

I'm surprised Chicago hasn't been mentioned.  You'd think they like to use #8 to get some of those picks back from their move last year.

I'd love to move from #12 to #8.  we could keep most of our picks and maybe get our guy.  (maybe)

I don't think the giants will take a QB with #2. The amount of blow back they received when they benched Eli was big for the owners, which makes me think they wont draft his replacement yet

I'd be all for this...on draft day. You only move to 8, or 7, if you know your guy is there.

Lol.  Imagine the blowback if they pass on a QB and the Jets take one that succeeds.  A whole new level.  They are taking a QB and they aren't trading out.

What if you can move from 12 to 7 now and it only costs a 2nd round pick? Then you have more options to possibly trade into the top 5 from there if the other team only has to drop to 7. If you wait until the draft and there's a really good player available maybe you have more competition and the price goes up

Brady Quinn said today on Sirius that the Bills will trade down to #9 with the 49ers and it will cost perhaps a 3rd, at most a 2nd. He says we will draft Josh Allen at 9.

Don't shoot the messenger. :)

Part of the draft is about talent and value and I just don't see how Chubb, Barkley, and Nelson make it past 6.  All three should be gone no later than 6.  That leaves three QBs possibly going in the first 6 picks.  I certainly think a good one will be available at 7.  One of Mayfield,  Allen, Rosen, will be available at 6 or 7.  I'd be happy with either there.  I have preferences but it's getting to 7 and not paying crazy assets to do so.

Using the above simulator, the Bills could give the Bucs the 12 and 56 pick for the 7th.  I would do that deal now knowing that it opens up a ton of options whether it's moving up into the top 5 from there or sitting back and seeing who falls

I wouldn't do it now though.  The Colts still could trade back then we'd be screwed by a team with better seeding.  I'd be on the phone with the Colts on draft night seeing what's going on.  IF they make their pick then I'd already have someone on the Bucs line.  And once that pick goes through then make the trade with the Bucs.  But I would have to be prepared that if someone is offering the Colts a deal, I'd have to be prepared to top that offer and perhaps move into the 6 spot instead.

I get what you are saying though.  Move into that spot now and then if need be move again.

they can trade with us knowing we are taking a QB and the player they were going to take anyways will still be there

but my reasoning for trading to 7 now is to get have the time to work out a deal for 2.  worst case, you get stuck at 7 but most likely you can trade up again from there
