Bebe, Bolton and Iran

It looks as if Netanyahu will get his way now that Bolton is on board--Iran is the last of the regime change candidate countries named in the PNAC document. I fully expect there will be a Powell-at-the-UN moment, with either fake evidence or a (Syria-type) chemical weapons event blamed on Iran to justify military action. Bolton and Trump are chicken hawks who did what they could to avoid military service, but have no problem sending our troops into Harms way. This will be a mistake of epic proportion. 

 

First, any attempt to take out Iran will pull in Russia, and possibly china. And US/Israel would most likely get the Saudis involved as well. I can't envision a scenario where military action against Iran would end well.

 

The majority of the population in Iran, their youth, hold secular views. I believe the better alternative Is to open up relations with Iran and support the continued westernization of the youth, then Iran's Shia government will eventually go the way of the communist regime in the USSR. This is a longer term solution, and, unfortunately, Bebe and Bolton want action now; Trump just wants to be stroked.

 

I suppose it's possible the get tough talk will be a ruse to push Iran to change, but I don't believe that's what Bebe and Bolton want.

i hope the Bills win a Super Bowl before Armageddon....

Funny enough, this topic is the bulk of my reason for this research trip I'm on now... So I'll chime in, though I understand your reservations completely, TPS. 

 

The Iranians have been in the midst of a "bloodless" regime change since November of their making. The people (and GCC) have been doing reconnaissance through protests, learning the weaknesses, recruiting the military and basij to their sides. The protests haven't been covered but remain on going. 

 

The US will be there to help when asked by the people of Iran, not before. That's what the demolishing of 200+ Russians was about in Syria last month (proving to the world the ROE have changed as has our mission in the region, and telling Putin to stay the hell out of what's to come). Remember the first gulf war, the promises Bush made to the Iraqis who revolted - and then he abandoned them to get slaughtered. Since then we have not been trusted by the people in the region. That's changing thanks to this administration. 

 

Hezbollah is on its back foot, pushed out of Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen. The military are with the people, the IRG is not being paid since the run on the banks two weeks ago - they'll abandon the Mullahs without steady income. 

 

Add it all up, and the Mullahs will be gone by September this year (my guess, not proclaiming clairvoyance). And it won't require an invasion or war in a traditional sense. 

 

Bolton is there to scare the piss out of the Mullahs and to let them know staying is NOT an option.

First thing hell do is point out that Barron Trump is a product of inbreeding just like his followers and is incapable of loading a rifle. I wouldn't be so sure. The IRGC controls a lot of business interests in Iran. I think they spent decades setting up corrupt bargains with the clerics specifically for this type of situation. No one, not even the Supreme Leader, can completely cut off their economic resources.

That's a great point and something to consider ...

 

But the banks are empty on top of the illicit funding getting cut off. The middle class is dry, and you can't draw blood from a stone - so I'm not sure how profitable the side scams are If there's going to be a fight (and there more than likely will, just not a ground invasion or massive air campaign) it will be with the IRGC and the Iranian military (with support from the GCC and us I'm betting.)

Take Trump out of the equation for a moment and answer this (if you would) honestly: If, by 2019 we have a world where North Korea has been denuclearized, signed a peace treaty to end the Korean War, AND the Mullahs in Iran have been toppled (remember, Iran has a functioning -western- government which will go on unabated if the Mullahs left tomorrow, you're not looking at chaos or a vacuum of power like Iraq) - would you concede that would be a massive change for the better in the world?
