LOL at believing the cops at face value. Bunch of goofies in this thread.

When it comes between Bennett, a proven liar and piece of **** vs. the police I am going to believe the police.

I don't know what really happened. The case is being taken to court. However, regardless what the Houston Police Chief's feelings are he shouldn't be publicly commenting about this case or one of the parties to this case. He is prejudicing the case. From a professional standpoint that is not what he is supposed to do.

Not knowing what happened and simply taking Broad strokes guesses based on the little we know....

I suspect that Bennett was a schmuck that night. I suspect that the police chief has some personal motives in this too.

when both sides are a bit sketchy - simple incidents turn into big complicated ugly stories

Well we may not know the details of the case but it's certainly shone a light on some of the posters on this board.

Yikes.

Says who? Perhaps the chief saw video footage that clearly indicates what happened.

Should the police chief in Florida have remained silent over the school shootings because you and/or others think that this is not within the purview of his employment?

How could you make a definitive statement like this? Were you ever a police chief John? Sheesh!

Personally, I hope he goes to court and defiantly kneels in front of the judge, with Kaepernick as a character witness. But you know what? He won't. Even the toughest, meanest killers I ever saw go to court and shut the #@*^ up.  This dude went up on a cripple. As strong as he is, the man is a kitten.

Too many perhaps in this thread. There is no video. It's the woman and the officer as her witness against Bennett.

Bill, You are missing the point. If you think that I am supporting Bennett's behavior you are off the mark. The point that you missed is that he made a comment about the defendant that can have a bearing on "his" court case.

Your point about the Florida school shooting is not anywhere close to the point that I made about the Bennett case.

I guess when the guy you voted for has about a year left before he's ousted, you have to vent a little.

Carry on.

very surprised it took as long as it did before Trump would be brought up..

I am not comparing the 2 incidents John. I am speaking of the role of a police chief.  Speaking out about strange or horrible incidents is part of their scope of employment. The press even demands info from chiefs. I have no issue at all with the chief making comments about a big, tough genetic mutant abusing a 66 year old female cripple.

And btw I hope she takes him for all he has and his career falls apart shortly thereafter.

To be fair the standard at a grand jury is pretty low. Having a cop say he saw something in and of itself likely has a pretty good batting average in a grand jury

itll be interesting to learn why this really took so long and what’s been going on. I’m sure we will learn a lot more soon. I’ll again say I don’t doubt Bennett was a schmuck but I’m curious to actually hear more about the incident and investigation. That it came back around after his other incident with police feels kind of uncomfortable but there could be an easy answer why

You are still missing my point. Go back and review the police chief's comments about the case at the school and you will find that the Chief in Broward County spoke about the progress of the case and even the person in custody. He was careful not to make personal critical or judgmental comments about the person arrested. That wasn't the case in Houston.

Whatever your personal feelings are in this particular case is your business. You are not a public figure whose office is directly involved in this case. That's why I still contend that the Chief shouldn't have made a hostile and possibly prejudicial comment directed toward Bennett. No one is saying that the Chief shouldn't have commented on the case but I think that he didn't use the best judgment with his comments.

I tend to agree. Which is why it felt to me like there was some sort of personal animosity between them and felt uncomfortable with the timeline (again could be nothing)

Im all for justice but think that includes taking emotions down and following the fact patterns and giving even criminals a fair shake to defend themselves.

Let's put aside the Bennett case. If an arrest was made for a case involving another crime where someone was charged would it be appropriate for the police authority after the charges were brought to make a harsh comment about the individual? I would say that it would be not only inappropriate but also wouldn't be a smart thing to do. The police will be involved in the prosecution of this case. Making what could be considered a prejudicial comment about the person charged places the case in jeopardy. It doesn't help the case, it hinders it.

The point that I am making in this post is not about the particulars of this case or even the odious defendant. It is about the process. That's my overriding point..

It was in an area that didn't have video. Maybe a fan has a cell phone video but even the police have said there is no video.

Stay classy. I suppose he'll use the race card defense.

Wasn’t he the one in Vegas last year or a couple years ago that said the police targeted him because he was black?

“He was just walking down the street” or something like that?
