When Searcy was drafted in 2011 I said that he could end up being a steal for where he was picked in the draft. He has turned out to be a really solid player and has done well for himself.

Hard to predict neck injuries

I'd have done it on play alone. Williams never looked natural at safety and always played as catch up. Searcy looked natural but not as athletic as Williams. Bang for buck, Searcy was a better choice. Williams did make more sense. He was a bad corner, mid grade safety that struggled to react but read very well while benefiting from the aggressive front DL.

Conversely, Poyer and Hyde react quickly and show the improvement of good safeties.  If we could have had two back in the day we would have been tremendous.  We had converts. It was gross.

Paying for potential too. AW was much more athletic than Searcy. Searcy was a solid safety and I would be happy had they been able to keep him, but AW had a much higher ceiling
