Right now, we are headed into the season with the worst QB situation in the league, even assuming we draft a QB at 12. As for McCarron being the best of all available QB prospects: (1) define "prospect." (2) if he was the best, why didn't he garner more interest/a higher salary? I like signing him for a very affordable price, but I only like it if a one of the true blue chip draft picks comes along with him, and right now, that's not looking so good. Really I thought the Bills headed into last year with the worst QB situation in the league. They didn't really even have a QB.....it was more like a skinny RB should/could be WR lined up where a QB should play. I really can't see this as worse. auburnbillsbacker
I think we do have the worst QB situation inthe NFL as of right now but as long as we draft our franchise QB in April who cares. If we don't I'm worried.
BuffaloFan68
I feel this is the best group of QBs we've had in a while (just be getting rid of TT) and I feel confident that by the end of the year our group of QBs will outperform a lot of other teams including the Dolphins. Let's Go Buffalo!!!!!
Tatonka68
I am pretty convinced that McCarron could throw for more than 56 yards in a game against the Saints. LOL Addition by subtraction.

I say our situation is currently better to that with Peterman (2nd year man who had a really rough outing), McCarron (a 4 year back up to Andy Dalton, who has 4 games under his belt) and an undrafted rookie. EJ Manual ,Kevin Kolb, and Jeff Tuel. Idk my history, but probs the worst QB roster in history
oldmanfan
I think I would rather have what we have than, say, the Cardinals with the oft injured Bradford and a guy who hasn't done it anywhere in Glennon. People get all up in arms about not getting some better guy in FA. I would have liked Cousins, but at the price he got there's no way. Maybe Keenum. Other than that you could have swung a dead cat, hit any of the guys out there on the market and it would not have mattered most likely. At least with McCarron you have a guy hungry to make a name for himself, and that has a winning pedigree from college.

BananaB
Case Keenum and Nick Foles signed backup deals last year.... Until we see more of McCarron we ain’t gonna know, neither do these media experts.
Hurricane Marv
I get the point of the thread and don't disagree, but nobody should be willing to anoint Blake Bortles as an acceptable starting QB after one season of very mediocre play. My point is that our QB situation is terrible, but many of these other QB situations in the league are far from ideal. It's not a stretch at all to think that even McCarron could join the ranks of the painfully average Bortles/McCown/Bradford/Tyrod tier.

This is pointless but AJM threw for less than 200 yards in 2 of his 3 (66%) starts in 2015. Tyrod threw for less in only 5 of his 13 (38%) starts in 2015. Assuming that Bradford plays a full year. 11 hours ago, The Frankish Reich said: Yeah, the offseason ain't over yet, and maybe there will be a big surprise, but ... objectively, if you had to rank all NFL teams from best-to-worst at the QB position as of right now, the Bills would be dead last. Take a look: http://www.ourlads.com/nfldepthcharts/depthchartpos/QB O.K., you could argue that we're in the same boat as the Chiefs. Mahomes went 10th last year, hasn't really played, and we have the 12th pick in a stronger QB draft, so maybe you'd have a point even though Mahomes has that nice work in the preseason going for him. Or I guess you could say the Cardinals with Sam Bradford's knees held together with popsicle sticks is worse, but then again, Bradford has had a fair amount of success in his career in spite of that chronic problem. Or you could say that Mitch Trubisky still hasn't shown anything, but he was the 2nd overall pick, wasn't he? Somehow the Niners (Jimmy Superstar), Jets (McCown is old, but has had a lot more success in the NFL than McCarron; Bridgewater is the new Bradford, but he too has a better resume, certainly better than Nervous Nathan, AND here comes Josh), the Browns (yep, as things stand today Tyrod is much more of a proven middling QB than McCarron, and here comes Sam), the Jags (same with the New Formula Bortles), even the Broncos (old wisdom: "at least they don't have to play Case Keenum"; new wisdom: "you could do a lot worse than Case Keenum as your starter") have somehow managed to leapfrog the Bills. I'm still not quite sure how this happened - it all looked promising during the Kirk Cousins Derby and the trade-up frenzy - and yes, it could all be o.k. if we get one of the Big 4, but right now, it's not looking pretty. "Upgrading" at QB right now looks like trading proven mediocrity for the unproven and uninspiring (the 28 year old 5th rounder with 4 career starts) and the 5th or 6th or 7th best QB in the draft (maybe Lamar Jackson or Mason Rudolph). How is it that 12th pick in the draft equates to the 6th or 7th best QB in the draft? And how in the world do you know that for Buffalo and our brain trust, that Lamar Jackson or Mason Rudolph has always been the desired outcome? Stop being chicken little, drink some decaf and don't overthink this whole thing.

Call_Of_Ktulu
We know who Cleveland thinks is better. They were going to give up a 2nd and 3rd rd pick for McCarron. They traded just a 3rd rd pick for Taylor, reports were that the Browns over paid and that 2 other team were offering 5th rd picks.

You want to go with "proven", well then of course he will not be on your good list. But why bother to make a whole post built around the fact that the man hasn't played many games? We all know that already. And then you go on to assume we will get borked in the draft, which of course, you can't possibly know. It really cant be the best move until its proven. Most of the other QBs signed have tape. AJ doesnt really have much tape.

You would likely be saying the same thing about him - he cant do any worse than 56 yards passing...but oh wait, worst half ever by a QB...
