#9. Reminds me of the Bills @ Pats a screw job in the late 90s. But it took a playoff game in 2017 to propose a rule change. End of regulation, or in overtime, it's a walk off TD.

There's a crazy story about a guy that had a 10 game (iirc) parlay squandered that day, all because of the screw job, but more specifically, the rule to make the players kick the PAT or go for 2. Since the Bills "just gave it to them", the Pats went for the easy 2, which was the difference in the man covering the spread in the final game of the day/night. I'll try to find the link and edit in in...

Indy's GM Was Opposed to Tabled 'McDaniels Rule'

During Tuesday's session of the Annual League Meeting, NFL team owners tabled a proposal that would have allowed clubs to negotiate and sign a head coach whose current club remained in the playoffs. There was no vote on the proposition known colloquially as the "Josh McDaniels rule".

Contrary to outside perception, there wasn't a ton of support for the change that would have prevented the Indianapolis Colts from being left at the altar in the 21st hour.

The tabling of the issue must have left the Colts seething, right?

Wrong.

Indianapolis general manager Chris Ballard, whose team got left in the cold by McDaniels, was not in favor of a rule change.

This new helmet lowering rule should have been vetted much more before it was adopted.

do you read actual in depth stories?    tweets are so uninformative and misleading

They are still working on WHAT should be considered an illegal hit.

Rule Eliminates XP Attempt After Game-Winning TD

In the aftermath of the Minneapolis Miracle, there was mass confusion. The suddenly victorious Minnesota Vikings were giving on-field interviews, while the New Orleans Saints were slowly trudging off the field and into the locker room.

But there was unfinished business. With a five-point lead and no time left on the clock, Minnesota was still required to attempt the extra point. So the Saints trotted out a motley crew of defenders, including punter Thomas Morstead, to line up against Minnesota's "two-point conversion attempt."

Count that instance as the last of its kind.

Below are the other playing rules, bylaws and resolutions adopted by the league this week:

No hyperbole: NFL's new 'lowering-of-helmet' rule could change football

ORLANDO — After this week's annual NFL meeting, everyone should now understand exactly what constitutes a catch. The league's next challenge: Clearly defining a far more radical change that will alter the way an entire sport is played.

This isn't hyperbole. NFL football as we know it may never be the same depending upon what becomes of the "lowering-of-the-helmet" ban approved Tuesday by team owners.

The college targeting rule is the worst thing in college football outside of Tuscaloosa.

Yup, they apply it with extreme inconsistency and unfairness.
