dbflaBill Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Any one else think that they traded Darby too soon, and the return wasnt really worth it. Having Darby now would be a more valuable trade piece than the 3rd round pick they got in return. In fact I believe the Bills could probably get a 1 for him if he were on the Roster right now. At the very least a swap of ones like the Glenn trade. Essentially the Bills "traded" mathews (no longer on the team) and Darby for a 3. I believe Beane really swung and missed on this trade, and it could really come back and bite them. 1
Ramza86 Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 I liked what Darby brought to the table. I wonder what they saw that they didnt like. If the guy wasnt buying in....i can see them moving on.
bobobonators Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 I don’t think Darby is the caliber of player that will come back around and bite anyone. Though he’s still young and solid. But I don’t think we’ll look back 7yrs from now and say man that’s Darby trade was brutal. 2
Chuck Wagon Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 No, essentially the Bills traded Watkins & Darby for Mathews, EJ Gaines, 2nd round pick, 3rd round pick. 1
JMF2006 Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 I thought there were rumors of him not being happy with the system change? 1
snamsnoops Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 The trade was more Darby for a 3rd. J Mathews was a throw in. It has been reported the Eagles where trying to dump J Mathews before the bills trade. Did you watch Ronald Darby play last year or in the SB? He looked like hot garbage. He wasn't a zone guy which McDome was running here in B-lo, making Darby expendable. 3

No, with that logic they traded Darby and Watkins for a 2nd and a 3rd considering neither are on the team, and neither really did much last year... My point is Darby would be more valuable trade bait right now than the 3rd they got for him last year.... Meanwhile corner is a hole that this team needs to fill.
napmaster Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Did you watch the Superbowl? A friend of mine is a huge Eagles fan and I just checked my txt msgs and 4 times I sent Darby messages. ur welcome for Darby LOL!!! Darby sucks Darby lost again freakin Darby So no thanks, maybe he fit Rex's scheme, but I'll take the 3rd round pick. 1
aristocrat Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 If vontae is better and the third rounder plays well it’s a good trade

DrDawkinstein Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 He's a man-CB that would get killed in zone. We run too much zone to keep him around.

Now that the holes at BU OL and LB are almost filled the cheaper tier 2 and 3 corners will be rolling into town.
freddyjj Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Sammy and Darby were pretty nonchalant about prep work, learning playbook and keeping in shape.. And Darby's worst skill was reacting to the ball in the air - which is critical to a zone DB. His tackling skills were not ideal either and they are a must for a zone DB. Scheme fit was reason for the trade. Gaines (and now Davis) were targeted for their skill sets.
Batman1876 Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 They felt the difference between EJ and Darby was worth getting a third round pick for. Last year it was.

EJ has nothing to do with the trade, and hes no longer on the team. My point isn't Darby fitting a scheme. My point is holding on to him till now, and trading him now would be more valuable than getting a third round pick... Darby being part of a trade package to get into position for a top QB is more valuable than the third round pick that they have.

He would have looked even more like a steaming pile of pooo playing zone in B-lo. We took the 3rd rounder and didn't look back. Our secondary was a pleasant surprise without him and should take another step forward this season. Bye Darby!

Its something that you hear in the media and you go with it.. Its one of the dumbest things someone can say.
Doc Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Darby sucked in 2016 and had an attitude issue so he was traded for what they could get. He had some moments last year but overall wasn't very good. The Bills made the right move. It's too bad Matthews got injured because that really would have made the trade a great one, but the Bills got a 3rd and still made the playoffs.
Jobot Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Classic example of overvaluing what you have (had). Psychological phenomena... but no Darby could not garner a 1st round pick OR a 2nd round pick. 3rd round is excellent return for him. 1
