The question that needs to be answered is why. The Colts have said they will listen to offers for 6, so I wouldn't be so sure that staying in the top 10 wasn't entirely imperative for them. That comment could easily be tied to not giving out what other teams were interested. Staying in the top 10 vs 12...meh it's 2 ****ty picks... Also it could very easily have been GM speak, just like we are comfortable paying TT and that they had no intention of moving before Glenn... Edited March 18, 2018 by Reed83HOF
Big Blitz Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 (edited) The media and fan base convinced itself we're no doubt going to be able to move into the top 5. That was way to ambitious and irresponsible.....national media rolling with it to. In a city that knows nothing but heart break, Beane went out there yesterday to temper expectations and fans still we're like "sure sure Beane....wink wink." Folks, there was about a 2 percent chance of landing a trade into the top 5. Trading back only makes sense if you did what the Colts did. You don't just say "yea we'll pass on Saquan to pick 12 and get a couple of 2nds. Edited March 18, 2018 by Big Blitz

It's unlikely they gave a chance to " beat" the Jets offer because they didn't have what the Colts wanted. Rather, they told the Jets " well the Bills are offering X and that's a lot. We really like that offer so you're going to have to give me something more or the Bills get the pick...." Once the Jets agreed to overpay, the deal was done. Sure the Bills could say hey we'll give you two more first rounders to compensate you for moving out of the top ten " or something outrageous . Maybe their whole draft? Would that be a good move? I'll say no. The Colts weren't taking anything but a ridiculous overpayment from the Bills. They just used them to hold the Jets over a barrel.

You don't just say "yea we'll pass on Saquan to pick 12 and get a couple of 2nds. Since you seem to think you can read the tea leaves, what did Beane mean when he said this... "I like the depth of the draft, especially early on in those rounds," he told the Bills' official radio program last week. "I'm excited to have five picks [in the first three rounds]. So I'm not going in, right now as I sit here, saying we got to move up or we got to move back. "I'm excited at 21 and 22 because it showed we made the playoffs, and that was big for our city and our team and the culture that Sean and I are building. So I have no intent to move up or down. We're focused right now on who we think we could get at that value." And then went and traded Cordy Glenn and moved up to 12.
Big Blitz Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 As I look at Rosen's garbage numbers vs the one top 30 defense he played this year vs what Mayfield Lamar and Rudolph did, I'm not sure after the Browns take Mayfield at 1, that I want to go crazy moving up.

Obviously I don't believe that to be the case, but you shouldn't say you haven't had enough time and then get one upped. It makes you look slow at your job. Why is this so anti-bills, I believe the rest of the 31 teams also have intelligent front-office people to make their own deals that is important in their own right. Why does any one expect the Jets or Broncos to be quiet while the Bills are jumping from 21 to 12. 5 minutes ago, Boatdrinks said: It's unlikely they gave a chance to " beat" the Jets offer because they didn't have what the Colts wanted. It is very apparent now. I tip my hat to the posters yesterday and today who caught on to this. I really don't even believe that we will be trying to trade into the top 5, I am almost certain that we are looking at the next tier of QBs and are mostly done trading. If that's the case (I didn't get a chance to listen to the presser yet, but I will in a few), then I believe I know who our pick will be. It's Lamar Jackson... think about it. Beane has scouted these QB's heavy all season. With his background of being the leading guy who scouted Cam, & Jackson being a better prospect then Cam, with a higher ceiling, he figures why move up anymore? Where in a great spot to draft our guy, if we can move up then fine...if not we'll get Jackson who we wanted all along. Imagine if Cam came out in a better draft class like this one... he'll probably be the 5th best prospect also. In 2011, Luck & heisman winner of that year RG3 decided to stay in college for their senior years, Cam at one point was behind Blaine Gabbert, Locker & Ponder was creeping up too. Beane ultimately drafted Cam out of everyone & was right. Pick 21 was a good spot to probably get Jackson, 12 is a great spot to definitely get him. This makes way too much sense. The only thing, you have Rosen & Mayfield coming out & they are extremely great prospects but just like Cam... Jackson has a high ceiling too, he just came out with a really good draft class. AJ isn't bad & will probably shock some people come training camp... & it will allow Jackson to sit for a year & polish up his accuracy a bit. I feel like it's always been Rosen, Mayfield & Jackson for Beane & the fact that he can keep all his picks & get Jackson is a victory in his book. It's not a bad plan when you sit & really think about it. It may not be the plan we all collectively wanted, but it's not a bad plan. Edited March 18, 2018 by Scorp83

AJ looks legit. Go see his highlights. At this point AJ could be the guy, he was pretty accurate in college. How funny would it be that he becomes a franchise QB. I say we still snag Chad Kelly off Denver's practice squad. He has stayed out of trouble and had a great junior year and was running for his life his senior year when he lost a lot of talent to the NFL. 3 hours ago, Jay_Fixit said: Colts didn’t want to drop to 12. I don’t know why most people here are losing it. The Bills are stacked with picks. And they might very well get a guy at 12 they wanted anyway. Plus, they can still make a move up. People are overvaluing the QB’s this year. There are a lot of really good players at other positions. We may get a ton of great players but there is no such thing as overvaluing QB. We have floundered all these years because we don't have an elite QB. 1
BillsFan4 Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 If Beane did in fact know a day before the trade, that makes me happy because that most likely means he was involved in, or at least exploring, the trade discussions to move to 3.

YoloinOhio Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 I am kind of surprised that anyone here who follows the NFL closely would ever take a GM’s words at face value 6 weeks before the draft. It was a post FA presser, filled with calculated talk that means nothing. 1

The reason he says this is because he’s lying. Beane is feigning ignorance that he hasn't studied these QBs. He knows exactly who he wants. He's cold and calculated. He spent the last year saying getting a franchise QB is a GMs most important job, now he says he hasn't looked at them yet? Lies. He's getting his guy.

Then traded Glenn and moved up to 12. Why would Beane hold a press conference to calm fans down for passing on the option to trade up to 3? Do we honestly think he’s doing the things he’s doing for the fans and needs there approval?

Yes, the Jets sure do have a long record of being shrewd evaluators of draft talent, especially QBs taken in the top 5 of the 1st Round. In fact, their storied history of playoff run after playoff run, spanning decades suggests (sound of a needle being dragged across a vinyl record) oh yeah, we're talking about the inept NY Jets here. 26CornerBlitz Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 Beane was in the mix, but the Colts decided they didn't want to move out of the top ten as indicated by their GM Chris Ballard.
JMF2006 Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 Maybe the Jets moved up to get Barkley if both the Browns and G Men take QB's? Maybe they want Chubb? or VV? Who knows? only they know for sure.
