This guy makes a good point on Allen.  Regarding the pitchforks.....if the Bills draft Allen, would he get booed at his first sighting in front of Bills fans or would to the locals accept him?  After suffering through Tyrod, it's going to be tough to put on my smiley face.

Fully agree with this. Everyone's suddenly a professional scout at this time of year... lol.

I wont lie. I am the most scared of Allen, too. Especially in a trade up. I want Rosen or Darnold.

But it I am not going to act like I am some professional QB scout or talent evaluator, and pretend that I know more than the people who get paid to do this for a living - guys who spend decades in this field. Guys who watch every single throw these QBs have ever made, who dig deeper into these prospects backgrounds than we can even imagine.

And  I am certainly not going to sharpen my pitchfork and/or write the kid off before he's ever even taken a snap for the Bills.

Allen may have the most upside of any QB in this draft, and there's definitely good reason why he's being discussed among the top QBs.

Im still hoping for Darnold or Rosen but I will definitely find reasons to get excited if Allen is the pick.

ultimately,  I will support whoever the Bills draft and give him every chance to prove he's our guy.

2. Buffalo Bills (via the GIANTS) - QB Sam Darnold, USC

They are absolutely desperate to get up in the draft and get a quarterback, which probably means they'll have to get to No. 5 at least. I've heard they like Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield, but that opinion is usually based on the presumption that they can't get up high enough to draft Darnold. If they get to 2, it's hard to imagine they'd pass on him if he's still there. He's not rated higher than Mayfield by everyone, but it certainly seems by most. The more interesting choice here would be if Darnold went 1. Would the Bills take Allen over Mayfield? I'm not so sure they would.

Previous Mini-Mock Picks: UCLA QB Josh Rosen (to Giants 1.0), USC QB Sam Darnold (to Giants 2.0, 3.0).

Whoah.  I hope this guy is right.  From what I know of him, Ralph Vacchiano has some insider knowledge, right?

He covers the Jets and Giants FWIW.

If there's anything in the ball park of realistic you have to get the wheels turning on this.  Hopefully it's already close to the finish line if things are leaking but it's silly season.

Started to get excited again.  I think this is the guy that last week said there is no way the Giants are trading out of #2.  Now he has them trading with the Bills.  Could be something.

I would be very surprised if any trades occur before Thursday

As long as we trade up on Thursday, it is fine with me.  I'm not crazy yet from all the draft stuff, so I think I can make it a few more days.

OTOH, do crazy people really know that they are crazy?

Ha.  I always wondered that.

Of course, as Dostoevsky pointed out, sometimes it is the eccentric individual who speaks truth to a mad society, something along the lines of Yeats' Crazy Jane poems.

I would actually be surprised, it there isn't a trade made before thursday

At this point, I think there are a number of “If-then” scenarios set up between teams but trades won’t be executed until names start coming off the board and they know who will be available and when.

Tricky if you have a two-stage strategy like securing 5 or 6 in order to get 2.

Valid point, but I feel teams draft boards are set. And even tho no one knows who teams will select, every GM knows many other teams are interested in trading up, and I would be shocked if one GM doesn't position his team above the others with a trade before they get shut out of a deal bc he waited too long. But yes I do agree with you, whoever trades, they need to feel comfortable with a few prospects to pull the trigger

It is tougher than a one way trade but can still be something that is put together ahead of time by the 3 teams, and the trigger pulled (or not) by all three as soon as #1 is off the board. Beane isn’t telling either team who he is taking ahead of time, so his guys are  the ones that call each team and say it’s a go once #1 is off the board. If his guy is gone, he might then have a plan to trade to 4...then 5... then 6 depending on who is there and when

I think most teams want to trade down. Bills are the only team I think everyone knows wants to trade up.

Draft boards being set doesn’t really have a lot to do with whether the teams are going to make trades. The teams already know who is willing to trade and who isn’t. These conversations have been taking place for months. The boards just tell the teams who they would take and when. If the Colts dont trade they know who they are taking at 6... if they trade down they know who they are taking at 12...they’ve gone through all the scenarios. It could even be the same player but they won’t know who is there until Thursday. Most teams will just stick to their board.
