Several people I’ve spoken with speculated that the New York Giants and Buffalo Bills likely have a blueprint in place for a trade that would allow the Bills to move up to the second spot in the draft. They also believe that the trade won’t happen until very late in the process, if it happens at all, as the Giants want to field further offers.

Speculation!

So how did this seem to turn to an absolute?

Grrr

He repeated today that's what he's still hearing.  The word is the Giants will make the deal with Beane if they decide to move out of #2.

April 28, 2016:  Day 1 of the 2016 draft

April 20, 2016 Eagles traded with Browns for the #2 pick:

The Eagles get: The No. 2 pick in 2016 and a 2017 fourth-round pick.

The Browns get: The No. 8 pick in 2016, the No. 77 pick (third round) in 2016, the No. 100 pick (fourth round) in 2016, a 2017 first-rounder and a 2018 second-rounder.

April 25, 2018:  day 1 of the 2018 draft

April 18, 2018:  today.

Shouldn't something be happening?  The more this goes on, the more I think the only way to get a top QB, is to somehow have the 3-way trade.  My gut is telling me that the Browns go Darnold (guy I want) and the Giants go Barkley and won't change their mind.  Jets get Mayfield.  Browns get Chubb or Nelson.  Broncos go Rosen.

I like Baker Mayfield, but it's little things like this that make me think he wouldn't be Beane or McD's first, second or third choice.  What he says here I'm sure some GM's find it telling.  He said he talked to the NFL guys and they said he needs to calm it down a bit but he indicates that there are some things that it doesn't matter what someone says to him, he's not going to budge on his stance.  Again, I like Baker a lot, but these are not words I see Beane and McD desire coming from a guy leading their culture.  So they (Texas) passed on you, you hold a grudge.  Leadership requires that you let it go and move on.

I think it's not as serious as that, I think it's general understood that "hate" and "cant stand" in the context of a college athletic rivalry, is kind of a ritual.

It doesn't mean he's going to go out looking for UT players to get in a fight with or something.

OTOH, it edges towards the mental/psychological aspect of Mayfield that does concern me.  A lot of people light their competitive fire with the match of what someone told them they couldn't do and fuel it with disparagement.  It works well to motivate them, as long as they have enough success quickly enough that it's not so big as to overwhelm them.  But if they don't have success, and there's loud enough widespread enough negativity, it can become overwhelming and then what?

Yes, he is from Austin but grew up a Sooner fan, his parents went there. and he hates the Longhorns. They are on his “list” (also, they didn’t recruit him so there’s that)

A little surprising to me that some of these people who are getting upset over the things Rosen says, and calling him a cocky jerk, are not saying some of the same things about Mayfield. But anyway....

This guy really seems to take any perceived slight against him extremely personally.

Hes going to get a TON more of those negative comments playing QB in the NFL than he did in college.

I think it'll either drive him to be great or it will drive him nuts and get under his skin so much that it has a negative effect on him/his career. Not sure which.

Continuing conversations with teams in the top ten except for the NYJ I'm sure.

This is different this year because the Giants dont really know who the Browns are taking #1 overall yet. In 2016, the Rams made it known they were taking Goff and the trade for #2 went down.

If the Browns would just commit to a player, we could probably get this done. But since they have the #4 pick as well, it would be in their best interest to not let their plans be known. And even if they did, it would be in the Giants best interest to still wait and see for sure.

We'll be waiting until Cleveland makes their pick, most likely.

We don't have pick 64, Cleveland does. And I highly doubt 2 future picks will be involved, especially next year's 1 & 2.

65 instead of 64. Happy now?
