It's a good thing you're asking this question, OP. The whole thread dedicated to this didn't once ask about his contract numbers.

I found it very helpful to be able to review posts addressing only this issue.  Much more efficient than scrolling through the original thread, which was not terribly helpful on this point.  I will be the first to admit that I don't understand the specific TBD policy on this.

No conspiracy theories or anything, but it really is very curious as to why his numbers aren't out there yet. It seems pretty common place for numbers to Leak out within minutes of someone signing, so we are we so far removed from landing a big FA without having his numbers? It's just strange at this point.

We signed him on the barter system obvs.

I mean, he should really be paying the Bills for the chance to play here.

Seriously or at least doing maintenance on the building on his off time. It's a privilege to play here for him.

I am guessing right around 8.5M a year

Could be. I'll say closer to 10mil a year, but not much over.

I'm thinking the Bills would like to keep it quite so they can continue to fish in the FA pond, without tipping how much cap room they have left.

Don't want to scare off a prospect who might think they don't have any more money to spend...

Full Breakdown:

Star Lotulelei's five-year deal with Buffalo is worth $50 million with $25 million guaranteed. He gets a $13M signing bonus. He gets base salaries of $3.5M (fully guaranteed) in 2018, $7.15M (all guaranteed for injury, $2M fully guaranteed at signing, another $5.15M guaranteed if on roster fifth day of 2019) in 2019, $6.25 million ($1.35M guaranteed for injury only) in 2020, $6.5 million in 2021 and $6.5 million in 2022. He gets roster bonuses of $1M in 2019, 2021 and 2022 and $500,000 in 2020 — all due fifth day of league year. He also gets 46-man roster bonuses of $31,250 per game from 2018 through 2022. There are workout bonuses of $100,000 in 2018 and $250,000 from 2019-22.

The Bills clearly structured Star Lotulelei's deal to take advantage of their more advantageous salary-cap situation in 2019. His salary-cap number is a manageable $6.7 million in 2018 before ballooning to $11.5 million in 2019. He then counts $10.1 million in 2020, $10.85 million in 2021 and $10.85 million in 2022.

$10 mil a year is not that out of line for a good DT in the prime of his career. With the cap increasing each year that $11 mil in 3 years is more like $9 mil equivalent now. Star will just be 31. That’s not old for DT.
