Nobody is giving out tons of dumb deals. In fact, this team is pretty flush. And again, it's not our money. Spend too much? Go over the cap. Who cares? Literally no one.

The cap exists as an actual thing, though. An NFL team can't just "go over" it.

Being in cap hell means other valuable players have to be moved off the roster. It results in a less consistent model for roster building, and sudden talent purges.

I, for one, DO care about the roster and cap management of my favorite professional sports team. I find it interesting, and it is an inarguably essential facet of NFL team building.

Why are you railing against this? It's weird.

Whats the cap situation looking like now with these signings? Did we find out what Star will be making?

Would love to add a WR and another LB before the draft.

They dumbed-down the offense for Foles...and still beat 2 of the best defenses in the NFL.  Not sure I follow that logic.

If you're the owner, sure. We're fans. What are we going to do? Stop cheeing for the Bills because the owner didn't know how to budget his billions?

No one is saying he/she will stop cheering for the Bills if they overpay for a player.  Again what we're saying is that if you can get a guy for a good deal, it allows you to get more players.

If it's really 2 years for $16.5 million this is awesome!!!

No, it's really 2 years for $10M, worth up to $16.5 if AJM starts every game the next 2 years.

You see clueless, I see fans who literally will determine how much they like a player based, in part, on how much the team paid for him.

There is only one thing that will determine if McCarron was a good hire: if he plays well. To suggest that "Well, he didn't play well, but hey, he only cost $15M, so I'm good with this" is ridiculous because the team needs someone under center to play well more than they need to save a few million on a contract.

Expand

I suppose we could just offer everyone $100,000,000 and be done with it. We are talking about potential ROI.. not an after the fact evaluation. It's a perfectly normal conversation in polite circles. At least it seems like it to me.

They did, but who cares at this juncture with Foles not part of the Bills' equation.

They would be foolish to include a rookie QB that needs major development with mechanics in anything but QB and delay development

Expand

He has consistency issues with his mechanics, not major flaws that need round the clock attention. This is the new NFL, where you create mismatches when you have a better hand you can play. If they draft him, he'll see the field in 2018.

I think the market for 5th round draft picks who threw 5 INTs in less than 1/2 and then that cameo in the playoffs, is not all that strong.

Har dee harr harr.

Yeah maybe he will be safe at that.

But I want to say that I have seen a lot of quarterbacks who didn't have it. Remember I have been going to Bills camp for 15 years now. And I wish that was funny. <_<

So I don't know if Peterman is going to be any good or not. But for sure, to me, he isn't one of the guys who just doesn't have it.

Other than disengaging I’m at a loss for how to respond to “just go over the cap”

Expand

You're at a loss because I'm not making my point clear enough.

Let me try it another way: if AJ McCarron takes the Bills to the SB this season, is anyone really going to give a crap what the team paid for him? Even if the team went over the cap?

No. In fact, hell no.

If AJ McCarron ends up leading the BIlls to a 1-15 record, is anyone going to stand around saying "Well, that sucked but at least we're under the cap because we got him for a bargain!"?

No. They'll be too busy burning his jersey.

The idea of judging a player, in part, based on what someone else paid for him is ridiculous.

Atlanta disagrees with you on Sanu and he looks a bit special for them.  Marvin Jones looking pretty good in Detroit.   AJ Green or Julio Jones, no, but "dime a dozen", GREAT - guy find me a dozen just like that hell settle for 2.  Jury may be more out on Eifert, injuries have hampered him I think.

Expand

Since becoming a full-time starter, Sanu has averaged around 52 catches for 600 yards and 3 TD's a season.  Nothing special.

So you're saying that 2 of the best defenses in the NFL couldn't beat an allegedly dumbed-down offense?  And signing AJM doesn't change the equation one iota.

Still wondering how Beane pulled this off

McCarron wants an opportunity to compete for a starting job and after all the dominoes fell he felt like this was his best chance.

Love the signing, perfect situation for both the Bills and McCarron.

Anyone else have a gut feeling that this means that we draft Allen or Jackson at 12 and that we may not expend any further draft capital to move up? I guess I'd be okay with it it, but man do I have a man-crush on Rosen. If we landed him, I'd be ecstatic.

Expand

It depends on if they think those guys are franchise caliber. They won't be drafting a 1st round QB again soon; they'll try get the guy they believe in. I think theyll use some capital and move up again. They've sacrificed little to get to 12, and that's key. There is certainly a price point beyond which they won't go as it will limit their ability to put quality players on the field. That point is anyone's guess. They probably only truly like 2 of these QBs . There's still work to be done.

I understand that, I just mean it's such a low price.

Some backup QBS make more than that, and he will probably start the year and has a pretty high ceiling in the prime of his career
