They don't have space but can create a ton easily. The post June 1st savings do not kick in until June 1st though - so essentially you cut him, but his entire Cap hit is on you roster until June first - meaning they save nothing and still need to get under the cap. I believe Landry also signed his tender meaning that they can no longer rescind that to get cap relief. They either need to trade him and they now have lost all leverage or sign a long term extension, but even that hurts the cap this year. They may want to be in on Cousins, but there is almost no way without cutting a ton of other players and then they are not going to be as good so why would Cousins choose them. They are in a no win situation at the moment. 10 hours ago, YoloinOhio said: Ah that’s right. Now they need to either trade him or work out an extension or they are locked in at that amount. Yep - this is exactly what I thought - no relief with a June 1st designation and Landry signing really hurt their flexibility. There is probably one team that could help them out if they really wanted to go after Cousins or to get under the cap and that is Cleveland. Similar to the Osweiler deal last year - they could work out a deal to take these big contracts off the Dolphins hands and get compensation rather than give up something, but the new GM is an NFL guy and not a money baller like the previous 2 years. I do not see any true NFL GMs using this approach, but it was how the Browns utilized a different approach under Sashi last year. Edited March 9, 2018 by Rochesterfan

Suh and Dareus are the reason DTs wont be handed massive contracts for a while Aaron Donald will probably within 2 years will be the highest paid defensive player in the NFL.
aristocrat Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 The contract he signed had a 6 mil then 12 mil cap hit and now high 20s cap hits going forward for a few years. It was destined to be short term. Such a tough deal to take on

OldTimeAFLGuy Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 ...not smart to get in the Big Dawg's outhouse......then again, it's Suh..... CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports "confidants of [Dolphins owner] Stephen Ross" informed him that Ross "was ready to move on" from DT Ndamukong Suh. Suh is heading into the fourth year of a six-year, $114 million mega-deal and is set to count a whopping $26.1 million against the Dolphins' salary cap. That's almost $9 million more than the next-closest defensive tackle. Suh just turned 31 last month but remains a legitimate game-wrecking force inside. However, the Dolphins need a lot more than Suh before they start competing for Super Bowls. Designating Suh a post-June 1 cut would save Miami $17 million versus the cap. The other option is to give R. Quinn a 1-year extension to push his cap hit down the road a bit. Or just restructure Tannehill to save $11M

Dirty player, will be overpriced, not a McDermott guy. Just say no. All true. The reality is that NO player has a noticeable impact on wins and losses except QBs. They just don't. So it doesn't make sense to spend a lot of money on any player except QB. Much better to buy a lot of $2-3 million talent and plug them into your system. Three $4 million guys will help your team more than one $12 million guy. 1
aristocrat Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 the easiest way for the phins would be to cut cameron wake
thebandit27 Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 If Suh were released, I think he'd go right back to Detroit.

Suh just isn't having that type of impact. Their defense is getting toast. Dareus has just become a big guy who eats up interior OL and doesn't move.

No 1 is redo RT deal to get in compliance No 2 if they cannot trade James (which they are trying to do they will revoke his option) No 3 they are still hoping to move Landry before UFA opens.
