Reed83HOF Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 (edited) Gregg RosenthalVerified account @greggrosenthal Tyrann Mathieu, here at @NFLNetwork Thursday, said he and agent spoke with Cardinals Thursday. They asked him to take a pay cut. Ian RapoportVerified account @RapSheet 42m42 minutes ago This was expected, but is significant. Would be a large paycut based on what his expected role would be in a new defense. This is why the Honey Badger could be a free agent. Gregg RosenthalVerified account @greggrosenthal Mathieu did not sound too amenable to a pay cut. Open to some type of restructure … “But taking money out of my pocket. I don't like how that feels.” Matt MillerVerified account @nfldraftscout 6s6 seconds ago More Tyrann Mathieu is a free agent, per @JayGlazer Adam SchefterVerified account @AdamSchefter 49s49 seconds ago Former Cardinals’ safety Tyrann Mathieu reached agreement on a one-year deal with the Houston Texans, sources tell ESPN. Coach Tuesday Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 What happened to him? He was a top-3 playmaker in the league a couple of years ago and he's young and healthy.

Knee injuries. Last year he was just off another ACL injury I believe. Sometimes it takes a guy a little while to bounce back. If AZ cuts him he will have no limit of suitors and I expect him to have a bounce back type of year. It's a business though, the NFL, so AZ has to do what's best for them as well.
aristocrat Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 It’s funny. The team made the choice to give him the big deal. The team is making tons of money. Nobody ever faults the team for asking him to take a pay cut. 2
ALF Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Might be trying to create cap space to make a run at Cousins.

Kirby Jackson Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 They also added Budda Baker last year with a similar skill set. Both are good players but Baker is a fraction of the cost.

They tried to redo his deal but it wasn’t to be. Keep an eye on the #Giants and his former defensive coordinator.

NoSaint Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 This will be an interesting crossroads does the guy get into trouble leaving the mentorship of Patrick Peterson and being much closer to the former bad influences of Nola

When healthy, he's still an amazing player. Texans scare me.
atlbillsfan1975 Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 (edited) Great pick up for Houston. That D can be amazing and if Watson gets healthy watch out. Houston really can be a force. Edited March 17, 2018 by atlbillsfan1975
