You mean you don’t want cousins in buffalo...

True enough as we don't have specific quotes assigned to those who would be involved in obtaining Cousins.  Really, there is not much in the way of hard information.

Not at the price he wants. I live in the Washington/Md area so I see him play quite a bit. He is a good qb but far from being an elite qb. From a value standpoint this is a very easy decision for the Bills. For another team such as the Vikings with a  top tier roster  it might be a reasonable acquisition. But for the Bills and where the team is in its rebuilding process it wouldn't be a wise decision. Again, an easy decision to make.

I agree it was a really easy decision for the Bills.

Good. He's a solid qb but will never be a guy to carry a team on his back.  At least one of these guys on the draft will be better than him for a fraction of the money.

It's early and there is no evidence the Bills couldn't jump in the Cousins sweepstakes when the time comes. No matter which choice they DO make, theBills will either have to spend significant draft capital or big $$ to improve at QB. It's not an obvious choice either way, as both have pluses and minuses to their ability to build a contending team.

I can see both sides here so I can’t say that you are wrong, but I do disagree. I do agree that we are rebuilding, which is why I think that our surplus of quality draft picks are as good as gold as long as we draft well. You build through the draft. I don’t want to package our firsts, seconds, and possibly picks next year to move up and pick a kid who has a chance of being a bust. To me, as of this moment, Kirk cousins is the best QB available. Whether it’s the draft or free agency. Now there’s a good chance that at least one of these QBs in the draft is a future hall of famer, but we really have no idea

What's interesting is if the Broncos "win" the Cousins sweepstakes, the Vikings stick with the QB they know (Keenum) and Ariz quickly, quietly tries to sign McCarron - What do the Jets do? Are the Giant's more inclined to wanna trade pick #2 to the Bills over their crosstown rival Jets?

I don't think that there is a hard Gotham rivalry where the Giants would not listen to a Jets offer.  I think that the Jets could minimally outbid any competition to get the Giants' pick.  Assuming that the Jets have identified one of the QB's as can't miss.

When McDermott took over last year his decisions were predicated on the future, not the present. He strategically made the decision to trade down and get an extra first round pick and additional picks as assets for this year because he felt that this qb class was richer. That was the strategy and the intent for last year's maneuvers. The argument that there are no guarantees when selecting a qb does not resonate with me. There are no guarantees for any position. What I know for sure is until that position is solidified this franchise will continue to be a middling franchise. If your history of being passive doesn't work why not try acting aggressively? If you fail trying that is better than failing by not trying. When you go to the casino with chips put it on the table. What's the point of keeping them in your pocket?

They could, but it won't happen because the cap hit is too much for a not elite QB. Not McBeane style, but someone like say McCarron or Keenum at a lower hit isn't. I prefer the trade up and draft rout myself.

What makes you think that if the Bills traded up to pick 5 that the Jets wouldn't try to trade up to #4 (or higher)?????

How would they know? Pick 5 comes up and they announce the trade. Can't go back in time

Exactly.  Whoever is dumb enough to sign him deserves everything they get. $30+M for a very mediocre qb reeks of pure desperation. Find a proven veteran free agent or take your chances in the draft.

He’s not mediocre

I agree with everything you are saying.

But on the bolded part - did McDermott ever actually say this or is this just an assumption on your part?

i can't remember him ever actually saying that's specifically why he traded down.

This is great news ... don't want to spend what will be the final bidding war price .. I like him and liked him at MSU .. but not at the pricetag he is going to command without a playoff victory.

All true, but the current value of those assets acquired last year are a lot lower than they expected.  When they made that deal, I imagine that they thought their own pick would be in the top 10 and KC’s pick about where it ended up.   Now, it will take both picks just to get to where they thought their own pick would be.  Also pretty sure that they thought the 2nd from the Rams would be a lot earlier than it is.  I suspect they expected to have picks around 10, 22, 42 and 45.  Instead, they have 21, 22, 53 and 56.

They will have to adjust their strategy.

Broncos, Vikings, Cardinals, Jets

Money must of really scared McBeane away. If Cousins ends up being Brees, it will be yet another lost opportunity to add to the list.

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/report-kirk-cousins-list-down-172441354.html

Another "report" on Yahoo  has Arizona as a "finalist."  Since no other team was listed as a finalist does this mean that Arizona is getting Cousins?

Smoke screen?

He he wanted to go to a winner.

Vikings is the only one that fits.

Denver and Arizona are ?

the JETS?  NE 2x winners, no way.

Arizona would look good with cousins

Can someone catch me up on why the Redskins just tagged him for so long and is just willing to let him go? For Alex Smith lol

Wouldn't surprise me if there was no interest from either Cousins or the Bills.   I'm good with it him heading elsewhere.

I think that if they were serious about bidding for Cousins, they wouldn’t be willing to pay Taylor’s $6M bonus.
