There is so much wrong with this story. Personally I go to the gym 4-5 days a week but I couldn’t imagine my employer forcing me to go.

Are they getting paid to go to the gym?

I know a few companies that have their employees do exercises and have stretching breaks during the work day.

They are paid.  You said have them exercise.  This company is making them exercise.  The "quote" from the company that I heard on the news this morning was "participate or find another job"

My son is a 25 year old CPA who was a multi-sport stud in HS. I mean, POY, tops in the state kind of kid. He now works in an office where obesity is a major issue. He has been put in charge of a 15 minute exercise regimen twice weekly to correct the problem. A couple weeks of chair calisthenics  and they should all be ready for the Navy Seals. Or, maybe, survive to the next week?

If my boss came to me and put me “in charge” of getting obese people in shape I’d tell him to pound sand. That’s is no one’s job but their own. Aaaaaand co-workers having heart attacks is the easiest way to get a promotion.

I told him to take them to Orange Theory with him one morning. He’d be a senior partner in under an hour!

If I’m an employer (which I am) and I’m paying for employee health insurance (which I do), why not implement a policy that boosts productivity and probably saves you money on your health plan long term? Probably a morale booster too. Win win win imo.

Imagine Chef Jim in his lavender spandex doing a yoga class, and then farting every time he tries to hold a pose.

So forcing your employees to exercise or they lose their job is a morale booster?  This is a very slippery slope my friends especially when socialized medicine comes to the US and the "government" is paying for your healthcare.

It boosted the morale in Sweden.  Try that here in some companies and see how well morale is  boosted.

Gee... Given the choice, exercise or get back to work, that's a no brainer.  The ones that don't want to exercise must have a really cushy desk jockey job.

It's like saying no to going to gym class in school.  You'd have to be an idiot to turn down exercise... Or one lazy POS.

SMH...

Yes you have to be an idiot to turn down exercise.  I'm pushing 60 and in the best shape of my life but that was my decision not my employers.  Let me ask you a question.  Would you be down with your employer forced you to go out for happy hour every Friday?  Hey I like Friday happy hour just as much as the next guy but when my boss starts making it mandatory? No thanks.

Yes/No about Happy Hour

Yes.  Would love it.

No.  If they made employees drink.  Alcohol is an a drug. And can be mildly to extremely addictive.  And as the recent study points out, not good for your health if you cross that very fine line beyond modest drinking.

Every Friday is not modest.  It's habitual behavior.

Exercise on other hand is good habitual behavior.

So you’re good with your employer dictating your lifestyle choices?  I’m am in no way dissing exercise. I’m on the treadmill as I post this. It’s the “you MUST do this or you’re fired!” mentality that is very disconcerting. But good to see you’re a good little lemming.

Madating anything outside the daily duties of the job description is a very scary precedent and again one of the main reasons I’m against univesal healthcare.
