The ratings that summer for the 2nd run of Season 4 were huge & CBS considered bringing it back but Howard Hessman had already signed on for his series (Head of the Class, maybe?) and a couple of other regulars also had committed to other projects. Such a shame - IMHO was the best TV show ever. A couple other nominees that haven't been mentioned yet. Soap - only 3 seasons long. Got the full series on a 3 CD set and watch it every couple of years.

I don't remember why because there literally weren't any actors of note in it and Sorkin wasn't anyone. It was just so damn good.

Leary ended up rewriting it later, changing the characters from cops to firefighters in post-911 NYC. "Rescue Me" became one of FX's biggest hits. "Anger" is probably the best episode. Ellen Pompeo has a small role - long before she became the richest actress on television as the lead in "Grey's Anatomy".

Well it did have Robert Guillaume (Benson) in it, though he was only in a supporting role. But, yeah it was a pretty unknown cast. Personally, I typically prefer shows that do that - spend their money on the writing and get talented unknowns for the cast. (Kind of like the way Cheers did.)

Sure, but in reality he hadn't been relevant in television for like 15 years. His role as Isaac was very small but he was clearly still a powerful presence on the screen. Cheers was so well written that they could say goodbye to just about anyone but Sam and Norm and still be terrific.

They probably could've even lost Norm if they picked the right replacement, but they'd've had to nail the replacement. Woody replacing Coach was inspired casting. Losing him would've killed lesser shows. IMHO, the show was even better.

Detectives from Mexico and the U.S. have to navigate political and cultural issues to find a serial killer. Rome. HBO killed it early because it was so expensive to make. Another excellent show from the most groundbreaking network in television history. Life. Atypical cop show staring Damian Lewis (Band of Brothers) as a wrongfully imprisoned detective recently released after 12 years in prison. Too smart for network television.
