2018 Music Fests, Concerts, & Shows

Mr Info

Recommended Posts

Hey all - I am posting this to see which music fests/shows/concerts people are planning to see in 2018.

I will start and add tour site locations or fest info links. I am in central VA so most of these shows or fests are relatively nearby but expect these acts to land near wherever you are located. Perhaps others may be interested who's out there to see & hear so add your shows, etc.

Pink Talking Fish http://www.pinktalkingfish.com/tour.html

Pink Floyd, Talking Heads and Phish as the name indicates. Saw them last month (Jan) and they were fun. They did a mash-up of Wish You Were Here & Space Oddity so they integrate other material. In Buf on March 8.

Jorma Kaukonen http://jormakaukonen.com/tour.html

Lead guitar for Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna, and solo work. I have seen him many times but he is 77 and may not be out much longer. Always wanted to go to a show at his Fur Peace Ranch in southern Ohio but shows are always sold out before I can obtain tix.

Railroad Earth http://railroad.earth/tour

Bluegrass/Rock n Roll jamband

Commander Cody https://www.commandercody.com/the-gigs

Famous for Hot Rod Lincoln and Lost in the Ozone

Igor and the Red Elvises http://www.redelvises.com/schedule/

Siberian Surf Rock

FloydFest  http://floydfest.com/

SW part of VA & not far from Blacksburg. Family friendly music fest. July 25-29 2018 with Gov't Mule, Old Crow Medicine Show, Leftover Salmon, Infamous Stringdusters, and lots of other less upcoming acts that are usually damn good.

Lockn' - http://www.locknfestival.com/

Located south of Charlottesville, Aug 23-26 2018. This year it's primarily a Dead Fest with Dead & Company (2 nights), Tedeschi Trucks, Sheryl Crow, Umphreys McGee, Widespread Panic.

So far all I have is Steve Hackett tomorrow night in LA and Umphrey’s McGee next month at The Fox in Oakland. Probability get tickets for Yonder Mountain String Band it a small club nearby.

Since moving from the Bay Area my concert attendance has dropped. I saw more shows in the Bay Area in the 8 years I was there than in all the years previous totaled. Great music scene up there.

I keep meaning to see Hackett, but I always either come up with a reason to not go, or just forget.  Can't wait to hear your review of the show

Saw him a couple years ago in SF.  He was good. The second set is all Genesis stuff.  Not crazy about the lead singer though.  Tried to come off like Peter Gabriel during the Genesis songs.  Nad Slyvan is touring with him now and I think it's the same guy.

I love Satriani but saw him a year or two ago and it was good but not great.

Was wondering what G3 was like. How was Petrucci? I work with a guy whose daughter went to high school with his son a few years ago. He'd go to the high school concerts and said Petrucci's son would tear it up.

I thought Petrucci was great but Satriani blew him away, no surprise I guess but it was the first time I saw either of them. Long show, 3.5 hrs with 2 short intermissions after Collen's and Petrucci's sets but it never dragged. Nice mix, going from hard-rocking blues to prog metal to Satriani. Petrucci had the drummer from DT with him and another bass player; he really shredded. I only went because of the $20.18 New Years promotion, but I would go again.

Oh yeah, the place was the Merriam, this cool old theater (saw Crimson there last fall), less than 2000 capacity. The bargain seats were in the next-to-last row in the top balcony. The day before the show though, their ticket office called and upgraded us to 21st row orchestra, so I was in an extra good mood for the show lol.

I just edited my post above, I saw Crimson there last fall, just tremendous. Going in, I wasn't sure about the 3 drummer line-up up front, but I should've just trusted Fripp.

Yeah, you never know what Fripp has dialed up but that's the beauty of KC.

The TR Utopia tour has me intrigued, I read that it is the original Utopia from back in the mid 70's. True? They are playing in St. Pete so that one is on my radar.

Saw TR twice, once with Ian Hunter at the now defunct Agora Ballroom in Tampa, literally sat 12' from the stage at tables and the other time with Ringo's All Starr Band.

Thx Rico and T&C

Based on the band members, I am going to try and catch Todd/Utopia...maybe at the Warner Theater in DC.

My favorite has always been AWATS (A Wizard, a True Star). Shuckett is in Utopia this tour and he played on that album. Would like to hear some songs but they may be difficult to reproduce in concert.

Rundren said the sound in AWATS was from his experimentation with psychedelic drugs and said that he "became more aware ... [o]f what music and sound were like in my internal environment, and how different that was from the music I had been making."

I don't see how this could be a bad show... the guy is one of the hidden talents in the music world. Ever listen to the Tubes? He produced Remote Control... excellent Lp. First one, Al Kooper. Second one, Ken Scott... that is good company. I have Nazz lp's here somewheres but I haven't listened to them in Years... kinda forgot about them actually until this discussion.

Love Big Head Todd :-)

Kinda, I was just reading about Utopia the other day. This band has everyone from 1976-1982 except Roger Powell on keyboards who is replaced by his predecessor, Ralph Shuckett.

I like them but have never seen them, going with a big Todd head from work, he is psyched.
