It’s not blooming really. Doesn’t have to do with color bleeding at all. The ball is like a ghost ball. It’s more of a tiling issue than anything.

It’s almost always what previous issues were with these TVs where the Hz rates couldn’t keep up with the motion without having blur, or what they call tile-ing. Makes me wonder if the Z9D has these issues, or the 930 or 940e. Because they have the x1 extreme processor. All these TVs are 120hz so that’s the only thing that makes sense as to why they are different. 

 

Anyway, I’m nitpicking like crazy now and know why I never just impulse buy things. Because if I couldn’t return this $2500 mistake I’d be seriously pissed. I just need to find out what other options are better. I may go with the LG oled C7 because it’s thw same price. Take this back, get the C7 and bring it home to see if there’s any issues. If I’m good then I’ll keep it. If not, then the Z9D it is.

No problem man - would be happy to check it out for you. Honestly I figured the issue might simply be the difference between X and X1 extreme and a 930/940 would show it differently. I also thought that the dimming might be causing an issue, but that doesn't appear to be the case. I'm very curious and hopeful that I can see what you are talking about. I can say this my z9d doesn't seem to have any issues with sports. I wonder if you go to best buy if you can get on you tube on the floor models they have out and experiment there?

 

Did you check to see if you have the cinemotion/motionflow on & if so, what settings - I wonder if that might be causing some issues? Personally I hate the Soap Opera Effect and keep these set to low. For instance Motionflow I have set to true cinema with smoothness @ min and clearness @ 1 & cinemotion is set to low.

 

Ok so I looked it u & it looks like cinemotion might be the culprit with ghosting most people seem to have it set at medium,but if there are ghosting issues they turn it down to low....

Ok. So after looking at setting after setting After setting I found that turning the Motionflow off almost eliminates any issues. Which kind of sucks because I actually like that setting. However I’m not sure it does anything for you with football or any other sport for that matter. 

 

I took some videos so you can you can see what I’m talking about. Not 100% easily recognized but I feel you can see what I’ve been talking about. If you want to see just PM me your phone number and I’ll send them to you.

I am pretty sure it has to do with movement on the actual tv and processing everything at once. Like I said tho, sometimes it’s crystal clear and others it looks unclear and sometimes it looks like it’s juddery vs smooth

After thinking about it a bit more, I figured it might have to do with the Motionflow/Cinemotion; so I am glad that gave some clarity to this. This is most likely the reason I have never noticed it, my settings keep it on the very low end. If you like it, leave it as you have it set; just turn that setting off when you watch sports. It's a pain in the ass, but new TVs with more options require more frequent tinkering to dial the picture in. It took me a while to dial it in. Personally for regular TV, I like just a minimum amount of SOE on, so on that input with it being down this low, doesn't mess with anything I watch. I tinkered around for a couple weeks dialing the settings in to find what pleased me so I didn't have to remember to switch settings. I'm lazy like that . 

 

The PS4Pro input is set to gaming which automatically turns off all extra processing (including motionflow) and gives a kick ass input lag. And I have the input I have on the Oppo for movies is set to...well I forgot; but I dialed it in there as well!

 

I'm not sure what settings are on the 900e, but try my settings of Truce Cinema, smoothness min & Clearness @1 with cinemotion set to low.  This was a year ago, but I think the reason I set mine up like this was to handle the motion of the scrolling graphics on screen, as well as provide a small # of frames for smoothness. 

 

Have you looked online for the calibration settings for your TV? Also the Spears and Munsil disc will help you set this up a bit as well.

figured I would bump this thread. I have a 55" samsung tv that recently got this horizontal line across the screen (real thin). So unexpectedly the wife and I are in the market to find a new TV, were looking to have a budget around 1k for the TV and since there are some very knowledgeable guys in here, I wanted to know what your thoughts would be on the best bang for your buck on that type of budget?

 

If you have any questions about preferences or things that may help, let me know.

I bought one of these back in December at walmart and it's the best tv I've ever owned by far. Crisp clear picture, easy to use, has inputs for anything you want, tons of free movies etc., and it would be less than half of your budget.

OT..but fun drinking game is watch pretty much any show on HGTV and do a 1/2  shot everytime the word "budget" is said. you will be pretty liquored up within 30 minutes

so the issues that I have is I already know that the Sony OLED is probably the best TV on the market right now in that size and price range. However I’m curious to hear your opinions of it vs the QLED and other Sony LEDs at a much cheaper cost. The LEDs could be had in 75” for the same price or less than the 65” OLED. And the QLED I happen to get an extremely sick deal on. Almost $1k off retail for the 75”. I’m just not sure it’s worth it and if it compares to the Sony LEDs, specifically the 900E for similar price. 

 

 

Ok. So what do you think? Have any of you had to make this decision, and what did you do? 

 

 

 

I realize these are very large screen sizes, but I'm surprised to see TVs costing this much in 2018! 

 

I thought they had all come down a lot in price.

 

I have a Sony 46XBR6 which is now like 8 years old I believe.

 

2 issues with it: one of the boards quit on me which surprised me.

 

The other is that overall screen brightness is "dim".  That is apparently a long standing issue with SONY TVs, but I have no idea if that has been resolved nowadays.  It does bother me, however, so if you have noticed the SONYs still being a little dim, maybe try someone else.

 

I have also heard that SAMSUNG TVs are somewhat prone to failures which has put me off that brand.  No idea if that has been resolved in recent years however.

I got one of these around the same time - the 55" TCL and have been really happy with it - great picture and features and fantastic price. Reviews have been extremely good - then again I'm not a huge audiophile/videophile and I don't care that this is a lesser known name - I just couldn't see spending twice the money on a set with a bigger name and only marginally better ratings....

I picked up the 32" for like $100 a Walmart.  Great little TV for the bedroom

From what I know most tv's nowadays use virtually the same parts and are just marketed under a different name. Yeah, that is a sweet TV for sure... if the cat ever went on a rampage and broke it I'd go out and buy another one.

That's the thing - when these things break you are done - there is no fixing anything anymore unless you somehow got a set that had problems and was covered by warranty (and you're going to deal with the hassle because the repairs won't cost you) - otherwise it's time to buy a new TV.

 

I had a really nice fancy TV with 3D (never caught on but I liked it) that died after about 3 years. I told myself I'd be damned if I was going to spend a small fortune to get another 3-year TV, so when I did the research the TV that jumped out at me was the TCL because the value was there and I really liked the picture quality and features. If this set lasts me only 3 years I can't say I'll be happy, but at least I won't have blown a small fortune on something that didn't last long. I just have no faith that buying an expensive set is going to give you a longer life before it's time to have to replace.

Roku TVs are a pretty good deal, I know the next tv I buy will be one as got my dad a 32 inch for his birthday (but his was from Insignia) a few years ago and am still jealous of it.

RokuTV is awesome for now.  But in a few years the hardware/software will have evolved to where your current TV is no longer compatible and you will have to supplement with an external Roku, FireTv, or Android device

 

But until then it's an incredible set up

Valid but now I have two external Roku's one v 2.0 and one v 3.0 both HDMI compatible so think am good for a few more years.

I am a big Sony TV guy (as you can probably tell if you've read back through this thread). 

 

I still have my Sony HDTV from 2007-08 and I swear that it still looks as good as any new 1080p tv I see in the stores today.

 

it was an expensive tv when I bought it, but it has 100% been worth it. 

 

I know this is a bit more than you are looking to spend, but this is the TV I'd recommend to you -

Thank you for this! I have a 47" Sony Bravia in my bedroom (was older than the Samsung) and is still working fine so we are not necessarily brand loyal. Not sure if the features on this are unique to Sony or not? Like the 4k extreme processor, it says makes everything look like its 4k, is there any validity to that or is this strictly a marketing thing?
