First off I think the Browns don't take any chances and select their QB with the 1st overall pick. I had been mulling the possibility of Saquon Barkley going #1, but a lot can happen with NY and Indy that loses them their guy. With that being said I think the Browns take Mayfield/Allen/Darnold with that selection. There is a report that Rosen doesn't want to play for the Browns so I can't see them drafting a guy who would loathe being there.

Second, do the Giants go QB? Do they feel Eli has 2 or 3 more good years in him? Do they pass on the opportunity to get a successor this high in the draft? They were decimated by injuries last year, especially to the WR group. I think Eli can still get it done if they build things around him. Do they feel the same? The defense is still solid, but could use some upgrades @ LB and on the interior. I think the Giants will seriously consider and elite RB prospect like Barkley here. Eli hasn't ever had the benifit of handing the ball off to a guy this talented. I fully expect him to run a mid 4.3 40 time at the combine and the game tape is there. The Giants think "win now" and make this pick.

Now the question becomes do we pull the trigger with Indy or do we wait and make a move with Cleveland? The amount of compensation required varies a bit between the two picks. If the Bills covet Rosen then I say why wait? Someone could always make a more enticing offer, but I think this is where we jump up to, especially if the reports are true. A trade that works based off of chart values would be #21, #22, #53, #96 all from the 2018 draft, along with our 2019 2nd and 3rd Round picks. This would allow us to move up to #3 and allow Indy a ton of draft capital to build the line or address other positions around Andrew Luck. We would still have #55, #117, #149, and #157 to add a few more guys this year as well as keeping next year's 1st. It could work. It all comes down to the NY Giants, what direction they go, and what we are willing to do to get our guy if he's there.

Or just go and get to No 2

giants still can get their RB

a successor to Eli back to back

require a LT as part of the package (Glenn)

then still get more picks

I would like to see us keep Glenn and move him to RT if possible and healthy. He may not be in our plans though, not sure right now. Dawkins @ LT and Glenn @ RT would make a nice set of bookends for a rookie QB though.

first, i can't see the giants passing on rosen.

second, i heard an interview the other day either on wgr or 950(can't remember) with an indy beat writer and ex player who spent some time with the bills actually. he said there's no way they trade that 3rd pick. he said that the need for pass rush is so bad that they will not pass up bradley chubb.

that leaves pretty much only the 4 spot for us to try to get to and hopefully the browns take darnold or allen. if we have no shot at mayfield, i wouldn't bother moving up. then again we may be set with a fa by then.

Good post. I agree with most of what you say. I think the Bills have to get to 2 to be sure if Rosen is really the guy they want. I don't think as you say the Browns will take Rosen after the comments. It's likely Darnold, but I have a suspicion Mayfield may be their guy. FWIW I had a feeling it was going to be Allen (which would be great for us), but now I don't think Dorsey can afford to go there. He will go the less project route and steer clear of Allen JMO.

It still may require us getting to 8 or 5 first and then making a second trade up. But, I am in favor of at least getting to 3, then we can have one of what I consider the 3most  likely successful QB (Rosen, Mayfield, Darnold), not projects (Allen, Jackson, Rudolph).

I think it might take 2 trades to get into the top 5. Nobody with a top pick wants to drop that far down the draft board. Both of our 1sts might get us to 8-10. Then from there trade that pick plus another pick and a player with someone in the top 5. I think that is why you are hearing about the Bills calling around trying to get into top 10. If they really do want to eventually get to pick 2 I think the Giants will still want to remain in the top 10 if possible.

I don't know about moving up to 2 or 3... it will simply cost too much.  I think a more realistic situational scenario would be if only 2 QBs at the top of the draft... lets say Browns and Jets, then making a move to get ahead of Cardinals at 15 makes some sense.  Maybe target #8-13.  That would only cost one of our 1sts and probably either a 2nd plus later round?  Or maybe less pics if Cordy Glenn is added.   Something like that seems more viable...maybe?  I hate making big move up, so very skeptical.

like 26 said, right now it's futile.  cousins, mc carron, bradford, keenum and bridgewater, plus others will find landing spots and hopefully with teams in front of us such as cle., jets and broncos. arizona is as much in play as well. there's 4 teams right there with plenty of needs outside qb. i'm hoping this pushes mayfield into easily reachable territory.

Browns have the cap space to sign Cousins and take Barkley #1.

Depends how convincing Scot McCloughan is against Kirk , I think Dorsey will know which QB to draft otherwise.

McCloughan was hired a consultant just for the 2018 draft.

I’ll be shocked if the Giants don’t take Eli’s successor with their pick. It’s a great year for QBs, No guarantee Eli is good for 2-3 more years, and it’s rare for the giants to have the #2 pick.

This is wishful thinking.  Teams such as the Jets and Broncos can get a QB with one pick if they so choose.   It's never going to be cheaper in terms of number of picks required to get a highly rated prospect.  If any of these QB's started to fall down the board it would tell me more about what the scouts of other teams thought about those QB's than what they thought about prospects from other positions.  If these guys are as good as many here seem to think they are the top four will be gone in the first several picks.  I still think Cleveland might move up to 2 to secure their QB after they get Barkley with the number 1 overall.

If I am drafting for the Browns I take SB the RB at #1

They are guaranteed a top 3 QB at #4 there is no such guaranty that SB is still there if they go QB at #1 JMHO

I totally agree, especially since the Eagles have Wentz and the Giants need their franchise QB for the next 10 years. Great situation for Darnold being able to sit a year or two behind Manning.

I see the first four picks as going...1. Mayfield / Browns, 2. Darnold / Giants, 3. Chubb / Colts, 4. Barkley / Browns

Pick 5 on down depends on where Cousins lands. But Giants no doubt will be staying at pick 2.

JJ Watt only plays a quarter of a season. I guess he’s disposable too.

It would not surprise me to see the top 5 teams stay put and decline any trades no matter how beneficial they may be.  Barkley and Chubb are the kind of players that would greatly help any of those teams.
