I don't care if you think he's the 2nd coming of Brady, it's not sound business to make him the highest paid player in the NFL after 7 starts.  I'm sure their hand was forced since Garoppolo and his agent were promising them the Cousins treatment if he got tagged, but it's still bad business.

You keep on brnging up Cousins when the situations are different with no acrimony between the 49ers and Garoppolo.  Based on what I have seen from Jimmy G, I'll trust the collective judgment of Lynch and Shanahan over yours.

Cousins and his agent will probably try to get a similar deal if not more.  It's out of our price range.  Looking more and more like Taylor is an option as the bridge QB after all..

Players don't like the tag very much

Well then they need to bring that up in the CBA. He's gotta realize he's played seven games.

Thai cant be true. I just read the Bills,49ers and Redskins are going to be making a 3 way trade with Garrappollo coming here.

This is obviously fake news.

They see him as their franchise QB. Why would they?

If it works out that's great...if it doesn't we look back at the worst contract handed out in the history of sports. 7 games.

This reminds me of the huge Brock Osweiler contract a couple of years ago. The guy has no experience in the NFL yet.

He does look good though for the free games he played.

I am so hoping for a Brock Osweiler foobar.

He can play.  He's got what it takes from both a physical as well as a mental perspective.   Great move for both sides IMO.

Which means you haven't wtached him play at all if you make any kind of comparison of him to BO.

it's 7 games. He looked great for sure but there is a very good chance this backfires. A lot of guys can have  a flash I'm just saying the smart deal would have been to tag him and sign him next year if he plays well.

Looks like the Pats should have gotten a bit more than a 2nd round pick if he’s this valuable

Why do you think Billcheat had expression like he sucked a rotten egg when he was traded?

They can have him for that kind of money, straps the team

Agree. When salary of QB tips balance it cannot be good.

He’s going to be a massive bomb. Not that he will suck. But he’s going to be Kirk Cousins. Put up some numbers. Not be great. This is a major mistake imo. We’ll see.

I totally disagree.  Go read what Lynch and the niners were gushing about...the command, leadership, on field things beyond just throwing.  You either have that or you dont and thats what separates the greats from the forgotten.  Now that doesn't guarantee anything by no means, but this kid checks every single box.  His on field resume is short, but outstanding to go with everything they see from him as a leader, a thinker, and field general.

I honestly think Jimmy G will bite NE in the back side for a long long time once TB is gone.  Keep in mind, he took a team who was 1-10 without knowing the playbook, players, coaches, etc but just a couple weeks and led them to a 5-0 record, including beating the AFC Champion Game Jaguars #1 Defense badly with (the former punching bag around here) Marquise Goodwin as his number one target.  The guy 98% of this board said sucks and was too small to play in the NFL.

Niners and Browns were widely seen as the two least talented rosters in the NFL at that point...and he took that same roster and went 5-0.  Offense went from 17ppg to over 28ppg.  He over night single handedly turned them into a top 3 offense in the NFL over those 5 games...again with little time with playbook or players and throwing to Goodwin as his #1 WR.

No one can see the future, so he could disappoint...but when I watch him I dont see any red flags with Jimmy G outside someone saying "small sample size".  He seems like the complete package, so color me sold on his potential and supporting this signing by the Niners with all that cap space.

Now if I am them, I go sign Sammy and give Jimmy G much needed upgrade to the WR group and use draft picks to add to the OL and D.

Garoppolo immediately morphed the 49ers into one of the most enjoyable teams to watch down the stretch. He had Niners players espousing comparisons to Tom Brady, and giddily talking about his "different aura." More importantly, his arrival in San Francisco made playing hella more fun for his teammates.

.

I wonder how 'fun' it will be when players are let go and other do not get raises they wanted because money went to QB.

If only the Bills had a problem like this to ponder.

He produced at that level with mediocre talent surrounding him on offense. Just think what he could do with more time in Shanahan's system and better talent supporting him.

Did I not say he looked good in his starts? I think I did.

Doesn't change the fact that he has only started a few games. RGIII looked amazing for an entire season. There is always a chance he doesn't turn out as good as they thought.
