Can you define the 2nd & 3rd world?

Tiny hands Donny wants to preen his tail feathers like Lil Kim.

Again.  Who is going to pay for this "event" when Dumb Don wants to shut down the Gov't again?

Is parading a few vehicles going to make us look stronger?

Guess that would be a 'no.'

Had kind of hoped he run w/ France typically being so Socialistic that they might as well be 2nd world.

Jet pilots have to fly for training hours, the soldiers and sailors who march are on active duty. The labor costs for any event like this is already baked into the budget. Trump wants to let his freak flag fly. Sounds good to me.

True, labor on the military's  part is already baked into the cake.

But what about the cost of fuel to fly the the Jets overhead or transport the troops from base or truck the tanks or artillery from base?

What about the cost of security?

How much like something cost the state or local government to support?  Are they reimbursed or do they have to eat the cost?

Funny how we're back into the definition game with people who have a hard time defenidng positions.

So far, we need to reinterpret definitions of evidence and 2nd world countries.  May as well start a new list.

I think shithole countries like France and the rest of our NATO allies should be classified as 3rd world.

Looks like we've come full circle: Shady thinks that anyone but America is a 2nd or 3rd world country.

2 things.... First, there is no additional cost for the military since they are paid whether they have a parade, or they sit on their hands.... Second, security? Are you serious? For the military?

I heard this morning that the parade after the first Gulf War in 1991 cost about 8 million $.  Surely prices have risen.

Not all of that military hardware is sitting near the Whitehouse.  It will have to be brought in at some cost.

To say you won't need security for the crowd is also untrue.  Surely areas will be sectioned off and the crowd screened for explosives.  Vehicle blocks will need to be set up.  Planning, implementation, execution, cleanup...all cost $ regardless if the parade marchers have guns in hand or not.

That thread could end up longer (& at least as inane) as the Last Post Wins thread.

I’m not a veteran, but if I were, I think I’d find this parade idea insulting.  Trump made a lot of promises to vets during the campaign.  So far, he has not really done anything.  Suicide, mental illness and homelessness still big problems.  This is a lot of fanfare in lieu of any real help for our veterans.  It would be a nice ego boost for our infant president I suppose.

How do you know this?

I don't.  I took that sentence out right after I typed it.  Have there been any significant improvements?  I read an article recently about how many vets are discouraged that Trump has not lived up to his promises.  But I haven't really done research.  If I'm wrong about that, please correct me.

Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), who lost both her legs in combat in Iraq, denounces President Trump: “We don’t live in a dictatorship or monarchy. I swore an oath — in the military and in the Senate — to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, not to mindlessly cater to the whims of Cadet Bone Spurs and clap when he demands I clap.” That about covers it.

I am a veteran that receives his healthcare through the VA. Although I have always considered my facility a good one I have noticed recent changes that have improved service. I recently had to take an antibiotic for an infection. I was prescribed one and although it helped, the infection wasn't completely cured when I ran out of pills. I called in to see if I could get a refill and after the nurse checked in with the physician I was told to get my ass in to the facility the next day for a blood test and a echogram. Fortunately everything other than the infection was ok, but their concern and timeliness was impressive. I had  similar incident a few months ago where my primary care physician arranged for me to see a specialist on an hours notice. I have also talked with employees at the facility and they have told me that they were beefing up the staff. I know this is all anecdotal but it appears to me that progress is being made even though I had no prior complaints.

Then how can you pretend to speak for one?

I for one don't need anyone else to tell me what I want or how i feel. Will there be some outliers that agree with you? Probably, but I guarantee the overwhelming majority of vets will agree with me.

I'm not telling anyone what to want or feel.  Just stating an opinion.  But, like you say, I'm not a veteran, so I concede that your opinion has more weight here than mine.

Many veterans, including me, would agree with you though. This parade idea is nothing more than a promotional stunt to stock the ego of this jerk. The VA has not been totally reformed to address the issues you brought up. Many Vets know that:

In a bureaucracy as hidebound and elephantine as the VA, progress is always going to be glacial.  I'll willingly concede that Trump has done nothing, simply because any reforms that have taken place in the past year were likely started at the end of the Bush administration, to be seeing results now.
