Bravo to Belichick for putting principle above convenience. People can get all over him for keeping Butler on the sidelines but make no mistake; it was Butler and Butler alone that created the situation. He’s the one that needs to own up to that and apologize to his teammates, coaches, and fans.

So many of those 3rd down plays - you have to think Butler would have stopped one.  That missed tackle on Aghelor jumps out, but there were a lot of plays where tacklers came up small.

Rowe was really bad.

It's not like he was a murderer or has gang connections like a former deceased Patriot.  Helluva time to become principled over a minor team violation.

That was harsh...very true though

Doesn’t matter that he isn’t a gang banging murderer. Doesn’t matter that we don’t agree with the degree of the offense, either. What matters is that Butler put his status in jeopardy, regardless. Butler. No one else. Period.

You think it it was easy for Belichick to sit one of his best players? I doubt it. Then again, principled decisions are often the most difficult especially when they’re not the popular decision. Too bad Butler put himself and Belichick in that position.

Yes, Bravo to him.  It probably lost the SB for them.

Butler might have had three pick sixes and been named MVP. There is just no end to what we can project onto Butler’s hypothetical impact. He also may have torn his ACL or suffered a concussion. Or maybe even missed a key assignment or two as well. Too bad Butler didn’t give himself the chance to see what his impact might have been.

True. We’ll never know.  In any case, I’m happy it turned out the way it did.

someone claimed he was caught smoking a doobie.  but I think that is fan fiction

I agree.

If he was, then the NFL should test him, as you're violating their rules.

I think it's fan fiction too.

Butler publicly denounced any wrongdoing in his part.

Unless there is is a video of him smoking then all of this is a rumor.

So who is lying? It’s clear someone gave Rapaport that story to spread... I assume it was the Pats org. Interesting that Brady appears to be on Butler’s side?

I truthfully don't think Butler is as good as he or other people think he is... he's a decent player but he's not all-world. If he's bummed out about getting low-balled or not even getting an offer then that's just business as usual for the Pats. They've traded or let walk much more talented players than him and they won't miss a beat without him.

That said, his replacement, Eric Rowe, isn't an upgrade. So who knows what Belichick was thinking. Maybe Butler was still recovering from his illness or perhaps Belichick/Patricia felt that Butler was a mismatch against any of Philly's receivers.
