Yeah, trade saves us $1M more than cut.

Do you see us keeping Travaris Cadet or Taiwan Jones?? Do we not keep either, or maybe both??..Who do you prefer?

I like Cadet as more of a RB where i think Taiwan Jones adds more ST value. I would prefer Cadet but it depends on when he is expected to return from his injury and how his recovery goes.

This discussion is going on in many threads so I thought if we focused this in one thread it would help.   Spotrac has this cool new (to me anyway) toy to play with

Estimated Cap of $31,336,937.  So lets play GM on Spotrac

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/cap/    go here and Click on Manage Roster

Manage buffalo.png Roster

with the log listed below the new Estimated Cap of $53,026,937

$53,026,937

TRANSACTIONS LOG

  1. Released Tyrod Taylor
    (Saved: $9,440,000)
  2. Restructured Cordy Glenn
    (Saved: $5,640,000)
  3. Restructured Jerry Hughes
    (Saved: $2,717,500)
  4. Restructured Charles Clay
    (Saved: $1,792,500)
  5. Restructured LeSean McCoy
    (Saved: $2,580,000)

Releasing TT alone gives them a cap savings of

$9,440,000  and a new figure of  $40,296,937

Glenn is going to be released or traded, regardless there is no place for him on this roster with Dawkin's emergence.

I would not support restructuring Clay, Glenn, McCoy for various reasons and I don't think that will happen.  Hughes is a restructure candidate to me.  The team seems to want to get away from Glenn and if you just let Clay play on the 9 million dollar number you will be out from under his deal.  Clay's knees are a concern,  you could waive him in 2019 and save 4.5 million.   I really dont think you want to make the relationship longer at this point.   McCoy could be reworked but I would rather just let him play it out and see where he is at.

I also dont think we have to spend ridiculous money for next year, the holes will not all get filled this off season.   A rookie QB will take time to develop so you really want an infusion of talent as your QB is developing.  take your medicine in 2018 and the cap will be in great shape moving forward.

Does it?

Cordy Glenn was given the big bucks for a reason.   He did his job.  If your worried about the $ restructure.  Losing Woods makes it important that the Bills don't trash the O Line by dropping players willy nilly.

Contract status for 2018: signed; $14.45 million cap hit ($11.1 million dead cap figure if released)

Age: 28 (29 on 9/18/18)

Playing time: 275 snaps (26.14% of offensive snaps), 24 ST snaps (5.49%)

Key statistics: 2 sacks allowed, 0 penalties

While you are playing GM and manipulating cap space, don't forget you have to leave room for your 2018 draft picks.  Based on numbers from overthecap.com the Bills need $8.45MM.

Just thought I would complicate things a bit as people are trying to free up money to sign _____ (insert favorite player/UFA here).

I don't really disagree with you in terms of valuing Cordy Glenn, I like him.   But one can argue that in the past he did his job, the last two years he has not been available and that is a problem.   This new regime seems to stress availability and the seem to want to purge any high priced guy on the roster.   There have been many rumors, enough that there is very likely something to it.   I would like to see Dawkins at RT with a healthy Glenn but something tells me he gets moved.

$25 currently

Release and restructuring, $25 playing break the bank GM and a QB still leaves $25.

A push.

I originally had Cordy released and I think the cap hit left them at $47 I think.

To be honest  I'm not sure.

after looking  I would would guess yes.  2017  was just under $167,000,000

Adjusted (projected ) 2018 cap  $188,668,589

An increase of ~ $21,668,589

...it's all predicated on TV contracts and the NFL is in the driver's seat.....sure advertisers want clauses for rate reductions if ratings decline......BUT...where else are they going to spend those dollars on an NFL Sunday?....."I Love Lucy" or "Lawrence Welk" reruns?......the Weather Channel?........the money is in the bank IMO.....

What I'm curious about is how the Bills are able to keep up with the rise in cap each year...

I mean we're a small market, and the most recent lists have us as the least valued team in the NFL (and bottom 3 in revenue), so how do we manage to stay competitive financially?

And in a few more years of the cap increases, it'll start to surpass our total revenue each year... Plus, I'm not sure the exact number, but I know NFL teams have to spend a minimum amount of money (which also increases yearly), sooo... Unless revenue sharing increases quite a bit, it's a bit concerning. I'm sure there's something that'll help them out, but at some point the League isn't going to want to carry small teams that aren't able to create their own profit.

...not sure I understand......cap dollars are equally shared revenues from TV contracts which big market pigs like Jurry and Boy Danny Snyder loathe.........ancillary revenues like suites, etc are kept by the clubs and these azzclowns think small market teams like Bflo should be able to command the same dollars that they do....our corporate suite at New Era is 75 grand a year......game day food and beverage is $1,500.....limo bus and tailgating eats/drinks is $1,200.....our same $100 grand a year at New Era would be $250-$300 grand at Jurry or Boy Danny's major market palaces.....we'd be out in a nanosecond if those became New Era tariffs....

All they need to do is fill seats.

The NFL takes care of the rest.

Trade/Cut TT

Trade Glenn - Dawkins did fine, save money, get picks

The rest - Trust the process

Oh yeah....keep Tolbert off the field!

Virgil....I usually agree with you.  Don’t agree with cutting Glenn.

If he’s healthy and we are going to kick someone to RT, I would keep him.

I expect him him to be cut or traded based off how this regime works.

I personally like the guy, but his injury history worries me and if we can save the money on the cap when we know we have his cheaper replacement on the roster, then I’m okay with it

If Glenn is 100% try him and Dawkin at RT . If they are only suited for LT , I would still keep Glenn except for a high draft pick or player trade.

I believe the Bills are going to take the same approach to Glenn as they did with Watkins.

Show he is healthy and then trade him in August  for picks and a player. This is the biggest savings. I also believe we will get a tip on this being possible with Henderson. IF Henderson is healthy, look for him to be brought back as a swing tackle. Making Glenn the odd man out. Glenn’s contract is also one where trading him post June 1st makes the most financial sense.
