He had 1200 yards rushing and 12 TDs in 8 playoff games, which is staggering. Prorated, his postseason numbers amount to 2,400 rushing yards and 24 TDs over a 16 game season - and this is against the best competition in the league. Plus he was a SB MVP (deservingly so too). Unlike baseball, postseason performance actually matters in football. Lydell Mitchell too. He was the first to really occupy the sort of role that Craig filled for a sustained period of time. Postseason. It matters. And it should. Did you really have to throw a shot at baseball in there? Really? 1

I was born in 1967 so I never saw him play, but as a kid I remember watching Lydell Mitchell make catch after catch from Bert Jones (one of the better QBs I ever watched). That Colt mid 70's offense was really good under none other than Ted Marchibroda with Jones, Mitchell, and Carr. They used to kill the Bills. Edited January 31, 2018 by 26CornerBlitz
thenorthremembers Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Roger Craig 100% deserves to be in over Davis. Still, neither of them deserve to be in more than Terrell Owens. Its an absolute joke he wasnt a first ballot guy.

I remember watching him play and listening to people speculate about him getting into the HOF. But I never saw him as a HOFer. He was a high profile player because he played on good teams with good coaches who got into the playoffs. And he was indeed a very good player. But he wasn't great IMHO. 1

How the hell is Terrell Davis IN the Hall of Fame? https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/D/DaviTe00.htm For comparison, here are Craig's stats: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/C/CraiRo00.htm My big knock on Terrell Davis is that he was only good for 3 years. He was really really good for 3 years, but again - 3 years.

Kelly the Dog Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 No question that Craig deserves to be in, considering other players that are in. A terrific all around player for a decade, stats to prove it, prolific in both the run and pass game, stats to prove it, prolific in the post season in both the run and pass game, stats to prove it, and a winner. It's a no brainer, regardless of the players he played with.

I don't really have a dog in this fight, but if you're a RB, I think voters feel you need to get to 10,000 yards or have either some out-of-this-world numbers in the postseason like Terrell Davis or a career cut short by injury after a meteoric few years (Gale Sayers). For regular good players, it's kinda like sluggers and 500 homers (Fred McGriff has 493 and isn't in). I'm not saying that's right, but it is what it is.

dave mcbride Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 (edited) (Incidentally, Marshawn had 101 yards in the final game of the season this year (blowout loss), which got him to 10,000 yards - 10,003 in all. I think he gets in eventually.) Edited January 31, 2018 by dave mcbride

It's not Craig's fault that the best offensive mind in the history of the game thought it was a good idea a lot of the time to throw a swing pass to him, and guys like him, instead of a pitchout. He was enormously productive from that position.
