Why does anyone pay attention to them anyway? Entertainers are just overpaid court jesters pretending to be people they are not. Who honestly cares what they say or do?

Answer: platform.

The "thinking" on this is that they have the public's attention, at times, however fleeting. Therefore, it is incumbent on them to use this platform "wisely"(meaning to support whatever daft crap the far left comes up with next), and of course, anybody who refuses to use the platform, like Taylor Swift, should be investigated for any sign of Trump tolerance.

The fact that Swift used actual wisdom as an argument, saying that she simply wasn't old/experienced enough to tell other people what to do(the very definition of wisdom), is a great sin, somehow, that the Hollywood Complex simply can't process.

See, I don't blame the entertainers. It's the executives and producers, ahem Weinstein, that drive celebrities into saying stupid things for short term gain, that crush them long term. There's all this manufactured guilt and angst, to go along with the jealousy from others, that drive celebrities into doing "something".

It's a lie. Celebrities aren't obligated to do anything for anyone. They have a job, if they are good, and they do it, if they are good. They aren't obligated to do anything other than their job. But, the "doing something" angle can be used to further a celebrity's failing career: Who wants to see the next movie starring Mark Ruffalo? Nobody. He is uninteresting as an actor. However, in eminem fashion, he's trying to revitalize his career by using politics, and dumbass leftists.

What this all comes down to is: The death of philanthropy(think: Ralph Wilson anonymously giving millions to spinal trauma research, which happily/ironically saved Kevin Everett's life/mobility) vs the rise of "caring" marketing (think: For every $1 you spend on product X, they will spend $.20 on the Red Cross).

This is all marketeering crap. The word Brand excuses all the anti-philanthropic, emotional blackmail that passes for "charity" and "social consciousness" today.

Much smaller scale of course, but aren't you folks using this 'platform' to express your political opinions?  So, if it is fine for you, why is it not OK for celebrities to use a platform available to them to express their opinions?

It's certainly their prerogative, and no one is saying they shouldn't be permitted to.

What it seems people are saying is that being a celebrity doesn't somehow imbue their positions with wisdom or quality; and that those individuals are given access to their platform only if they parrot a very specific set of opinions.

We are expressing our views on PPP, not broadcasting them to everyone on TSW or OTW

Participation here is voluntary.  Nobody is being subjected to a political rant in the guise of entertainment

They can express whatever opinions they want.  And we can call them hypocrites and ignorant morons for it.

You're confusing the right to free speech with the right to be taken seriously.  They're entitled to the former.  There is no such thing as the latter.

I love how Democrats always have celebrities tell us small folk what to think. Like Kim Kardashian (porn Star) ought to have her opinion considered. Like I need Jay-Z and Beyoncé to tell me what to think. I’m so sick of it. They don’t live in the same world we do — !@#$ them.

The Democrats themselves don't live in the same world the average person does.

They're a blight.
