I think he is at least part of the reason why Incognito is in Buffalo.

As I recall, he stood up for him and helped him get a 2nd chance.

This sucks on many levels, but first and foremost I’ll pray for his wellbeing. This came as a shock, for sure.

The continued crapiness of this regime never fails to amaze me. My god these rookies are clueless

The were supposed to have the foresight to predict a career ending injury?  Don't be ridiculous.

So much respect for Wood. This is sad news.

He will be replacable on a talent level but will leave a big hole on a leadership level, him and Richie were also great together on n off the field. Groy can fill the void on the field.

From what I am hearing this was not a singular event but a cumulative type injury?

Eric's been a class act ever since Day One with The Bills.

I wish him well. He's a good person.

Time to pony up for his charity too.

I just mentioned Richie. They are very close friends

I don't agree with that guy, but I will say that I never liked the extension that they gave him.

I felt it was a poor investment in an aging player whose best days were passed him.

That said, I've always liked the kid and wish him well.

Whatever the injury, it sounds as if he's not at particular risk in every day life.  That's a good thing.  I know he'd rather be playing football for a few more years, but there are other things he can do and stay healthy.  If he wants to stay connected with football, he probably has the ability to get into coaching or media work.   Thanks your you years of contribution to the team, Eric.

I can see your POV  from that perspective with regard to the extension, but my point still remains on the injury front.

He had a good 9-year career and made a lot of money, and I'm glad he's leaving on his own terms. He's rich, soon to be 32, in a presumably happy family situation, and has the bulk of his life in front of him.  He was a better player than a lot here gave him credit for even though he wasn't the best center in the league. He was, however, better than average and quite reliable, averaging over 13 games played per season over the course of his career.

As for the Bills: I think that this is a bigger deal than many might think because he was a rock-solid center (again, not the best, but pretty good) whose general reliability made the center position one the Bills' brass figured they didn't have to worry about for a couple of years. This creates a pretty big hole for them, and they are going to need to address it early on unless they think Groy is capable of being a league-average starter.

Agreed with the top.

As for Groy, I thought he played really well after Wood broke his leg last season. I would think they feel comfortable plugging him in. I'm hopeful they don't feel as though they need to add the position to the top priority list.

This really sucks but hopefully nobody blames Beane/McD for the recent extension which will now further complicate the Bills salary cap and offseason plans in a very negative way.

The silver lining here, we may already have a very viable and affordable in house replacement here who some have been begging to start at guard or center last year based on his 2016 metrics: Ryan Groy.

Eric Wood you will be missed and glad you at least got to make the playoffs too after being here for the 2008 and 2011 debacles.

he wasn't in the nfl yet. i'm surprised you didn't know that. you're not usually wrong on football matters.....
