Utah John Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 (edited) If they draft the right QB, the odds are very good he'll be here longer than McDermott. It's always easier to find a new HC than a great QB. Not that I'm predicting bad things, but there are always ups and downs, and sometimes a coach just wears out his welcome. For the record, I think McDermott is doing a great job. He had a few mistakes but he has the team on the right track. He's the anti-Wrecks, a serious competent guy who has the team working together and believing in itself. Still, the half life for HC tenures in the NFL is probably 3 or 4. So the team's organization needs to have a voice in this selection, not just the HC. People stood back and watched as Wrecks decimated the great defense that Jim Schwartz had put together, because Wrecks was a 3-4 guy and had his own scheme. So out went great players and in came new guys like Ragland who didn't fit when McDermott and Beane came in. So now they're rebuilding the D line and LBs almost from scratch. 3 hours ago, Tatonka68 said: He is looking for no red flags, a senior with "good grades" and a good character guy. Hey, I have no red flags, I'm a senior (62 years young) and what a character. Also very good grades in college, back in the day. Coach, if you're reading this, please send a private message. Are you drunk? Taking mind altering substances? You seriously think that Indy is going to trade for a backup QB who is going to be making $15mil-18mil against their cap, who might not even be better than their current backup, and who is definitely not better than luck!? They are on the hook for $24mil this year for luck They can cut him after this year, voiding 3 years $75 mil remaining, but eating about $13mil dead cap in 2019. Pick #21 +tyrod +Glenn +one of the 2nds for #3?? I mean like, I'm trying to be nice, and I appreciate the optimism, but that is one of the most laughable things I've ever read on here. If I offered that in Madden'18, the PS4 would probably reach out and slap me, then delete my game, and tell me to go back to tecmo bowl 1

And he definitely would not want to go to Buffalo.

I'm 35 and own my own home. Playing PS4 and Madden doesn't make you a teenager. Nice try though. Indy isn't trading luck. He just missed an entire season with a throwing shoulder labral tear. He is owed $24mil this year. He has 4 years and $100mil on his deal. There is no way they give up on him until seeing how he looks this year. If they have decided they don't want to risk that long term, then they will draft a QB most likely, at 3 if they see a guy they love, like what SD did with Rivers and Brees. If they go give up, nobody is going to trade for him, they'll wait until he's cut, then take a risk, when he's a FA like NO did with Brees. Putting up $$ for cousins isn't the same as luck. Nobody is even sure luck can throw a NFL caliber pass at this point after that injury. A pre-injury luck is better than cousins. Cousins at the moment is a much safer bet than luck because he's healthy. So no, nothing you've said clicks. Even if Indy was moving on, tyrod, Glenn, and #21 is nowhere near enough for #3, and if Indy was moving on they'd more than likely draft a QB (which they won't) and not trade down for a pile of crap.
Batman1876 Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Didn’t we draft a guy who was arrested for aggravated assault after getting in a bar fight and breaking a guys orbital bone.

In all seriousness, I dont think any of us know what his QB is. Time will tell for sure. Exactly my point. McD is a defensive coach. How would anyone know what type of QB he favors?
Rk_Bills86 Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 So I know this is a QB thread. I would take either for that price. For those saying Roquan Smith, how does he compare to Tremaine Edmunds? I've seen some tape on Edmunds and have been extremely impressed. To quote a few reviews he is "Hard to Ignore" when watching tape.
8-8 Forever? Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 (edited) i don't want to move up for a QB anymore. that ship sailed when both our no 1s fell out of the top 20, IMO. The price of success. Grab BPO or BPO-QB at 21 and be done with it. Trust the process. Go get a FA QB. McCarron or someone to compete. If it isn't for Darnold, who you can't get to anyway why bother trading up? Get Kyle Williams - type players and go win 10 games next year. they did it this year with a crappy roster, next year should be at least that roster. Edited January 26, 2018 by 8-8 Forever?

Likely Indy stays put and does the smart thing and drafts Barkley 1

I'm sure he wants to start him this year and see what he's got with an off season with the ones. That last pass in Jax pretty well sealed it for me......... telegraphed an out route staring it down then noodle arms it getting picked. This guy will never be a starter......... and after his rookie deal might not even be a back up.

I agree 100%, but thinking our 21st and Glenn would be enough to get them to trade the #3 is asinine LOL The best thing for the bills would be being able to move Glenn and some picks to get up to take our QB, so that we wouldnt have to give up more picks. However, I don't see the Colts taking anything less than a kings ransom of picks AND Glenn for that pick. The consolation prize is also good for the Bills. Having two very good tackles will help whoever our QB is tremendously.

But both Giants at #2 and Colts at #3 do need OL help and that might help you save a draft pick somewhere in the trade... it won't be a #1 though. Maybe he gets the value of a 4th or a future 3rd?

Agreed. However I would prefer to keep Glenn and trade a 4th. I know he has injury issues but he is better than solid when healthy. Not having to address the tackle spot except for depth would be really nice. That said, if our med staff knows he will not remain healthy ever in his career then I guess its best to part ways if possible

He is looking for no red flags, a senior with "good grades" and a good character guy. So under these conditions these are the players that fit, Mason Rudolph Oklahoma St, Kurt Benkert Virginia, Mike White Western Kentucky and maybe Sam Darnold. He will never draft, in my opinion, Baker Mayfield, Sam Rosen, or Lamar Jackson. Josh Allen does not fit either but might be drafted anyhow. sorry to bust your bubble. I certainly hope you're wrong because at the very top of the list should be "has the potential to be a great QB". By all accounts, EJ Manuel fit your criteria perfectly, but he missed on my criteria... and he was a bust. The Bills don't need a choirboy but a QB. If the kid has the right physical qualities, has his head on straight enough to keep out of trouble off the field and make good decisions on the field, and is a hard worker, I would certainly be po'd if the Bills passed on him for some lesser prospect because of the largely irrelevant criteria you cited.
