He looked a heck of a lot like Jimmy Garoppolo, who has all of the same strengths.

This was the exact comparison I had in mind. He's projected to go in the 3rd or 4th round but this past week has probably seen his stock up up so I'd take him in the 2nd.

You can't take one performance from one game and think that will be what this kid plays like in the NFL. Everything is about projection and scouts need to see every throw, every situation in all their games and not just the highlight film. The senior bowl is just a fragment of what scouts look at to make an evaluation.

Consider this, that NFL QB Matt Cassell never started a game in his four years in college at USC and in his entire college career amassed a total of 33 attempts for 20, 192 yards, 0 TDs, 1 INT. The 40th rated QB that year. He was a backup QB to Carson Palmer and couldn't beat out Matt Leinart for the starting job. The Patriots drafted Cassell in the 7th round and sat him to develop.

The point is that if developed properly even a kid that didn't play much college FB and couldn't even beat out the starting QB/Heisman Trophy winner went on to have a better NFL career than said HT winner.

Sounds nice, but he looks limited to my eye.  Project QB.

They're all project QBs.

I really like his accuracy and mechanics. He gets good zip on the ball and can attack tight coverage.

He's got NFL calibre traits that can be worked with. The things he does well are the same things most top QBs do well.

I don't know where he'll go, but I guarantee every NFL team who needs a QB is reevaluating their scouting report for him after his week at the Senior Bowl.

He seems like a guy who could learn the NFL game, much like Jimmy Garoppolo did before him.

Comparing the two, they seem to bring all the same things to the table (accuracy, quick set up and release, great mechanics, good mobility). He obviously needs seasoning and needs to learn an NFL system, but that can be said for every QB in the draft.

Except for how he doesn't react well when pressured.  That's a problem.

Not exactly. Darnold is pretty darned good when pressured.

Darnold has more INTs under pressure this season than Mayfield, Rosen, and Lamar Jackson combined. Of all the QBs likely to be drafted this year, only Allen and Benkert had a lower passer rating under pressure.

He did regress from 2016 when under pressure when he was very good, but I believe he'll bounce back.

Not saying you're wrong because maybe you've seen something I haven't but in looking at tape and listening to/reading some analysts he looks like a guy who has very good poise/pocket presence and who in addition to stepping up shows the subtle lateral movement that good pocket passers have to buy time. That's in addition to a quick release, quiet feet, good throwing motion overall, outstanding lower body mechanics which generate plenty of velocity in the short to medium range. Based on what I've seen I'd even take issue with what some say negatively about his long ball accuracy and arm strength. The long ball floater overthrows I saw resulted from his having to loft it because a defender was right in his face. When setting up properly I've seen him throw 50 yards on a line and hit his receiver in stride.

I know you only like projected first rounders but this kid could be a Jimmy G /Tony Romo clone ideal for a WCO. Watch the Pats take him in the third (and if he impresses before the draft maybe before).

Unfortunately in the NFL QBs don't always have the luxury of a clean pocket.  You have to have the ability to stand and deliver or make subtle movements in the face of a rush if you want to be among the best.

Of course I understand that but what I'm saying is that he looks to work the pocket well, knows how to buy time, has the awareness. Not sure you can ask for more than that. He's certainly less skittish than Josh Allen. He also goes through his progressions very well and throws with a lot of anticipation. I see a lot to like.

One problem is that he has a disproportionately high % of balls batted down at the line. Maybe he's not as tall as college measured, or maybe it's his arm motion.
