RaoulDuke79 Posted January 25, 2018 Author Posted January 25, 2018 (edited) This one and the Godfather Theme aren't my favorites, but I think Slash and Buckethead are both pretty great. Also love Dave Navaro with Janes Addiction. Edited January 25, 2018 by RaoulDuke79 2
section122 Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Man there are so many. Are we talking speed solo? Technical solo? Or just overall great solo? Guitar solos are the thing that will draw me to a song and get me to play it over and over. So I'll probably end up competing with gugny for most posts in this thread! I guess we can start here. I had a hard time deciding between this and still got the blues but since this was the first song of his I discovered I'll go with it. On 1/24/2018 at 9:08 AM, Seasons1992 said: 2. When he first struck out I thought he was just a gimmick but he is fantastic on the guitar. I was really surprised at his range. How about some love for Steve Vai. Solo starts 2+ minutes in but this guy is also incredible there are so many it is hard to pick 1 but you can't go wrong with this.
Gugny Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 I've got a video of my son jamming on his new LTD KH-602. I wish I could figure out how to post it here.

Saw him several times years ago in California when he toured with the Meat Puppets. If he is doing a solo gig it will be great. The pickups were swappable - hum buckers/Fender single pole/etc. Got a Travis Bean instead. When I was a kid a bought this new at this at a store in downtown Buffalo. $600 new that was a LOT of $$$. Gigged with it and concluded while it looks good. Sound wise it sucked. $90 Danelectros blew it away. That said I sold it to a friend for $100 and regret it because of its current collectors status. None the less it sucks IMO. Lucite does not resonate well. 1
Fixxxer Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Great solo by Bryan May, Hammer to Fall, starts around the 2 minute mark. Short but powerful, love it.
Fixxxer Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Thin Lizzie - Whiskey in the jar, another short solo.
Fixxxer Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Slash - Estranged, great song and solo https://youtu.be/dpmAY059TTY?t=368
OGTEleven Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 (edited) I like a lot of guys mentioned here already. I love that Gilmour is getting a lot of mentions. I like classic rock for the most part so I thought about Hendrix, Gilmour Page, and a bunch of others. For a lot of them I like some of the lesser known deep tracks type songs. I was trying to pick one of those to post and was surfing around Youtube. When this popped up I couldn't look past it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1Wp2ASqyxI For one that you might not have heard, look up a live version of "Speedway at Nazareth". ChevyVanMiller Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 How about a shout-out to local boy Jay Neubauer of That 80s Hair Band. Jay can shred with the best of them. 1
T&C Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 Black Napkins off of Zoot Allures is my favorite but this one always impressed me, the solo is the whole song long:

To paraphrase Henry Rollins- "Down on the Street makes you want to fight or !@#$!" J Mascis has style and can shred. Great solo at the 2:17 mark

Doc Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 Another obscure solo from a metal master who, like Vai, IMO are probably 2 of the most technically greatest guitarists ever, but lack feel: And another from the master George Lynch (going to see him in March at a free show at a local casino): 1
