My Annual Ski Trip.

Chef Jim

Recommended Posts

Back in straight ski days... I skied 210cm SLALOM skis... LMAO!  I think shaped skis knocked slalom skis down to the 160-175cm range?  My all mountain's now are shaped 188s.  Everybody is carving up hill with much shorter skis now!  I might have to bite bullet and go short so this old man can swing them off-piste! :(. But, at my height (6'3") I won't be able to catch my son on the bigger mountain cruises...

Probably why I don't prefer off-piste or abuse in bumps.

Better bring your rubber.  Don’t want your foot to get wet. ?

LoL... I see what you did there!  But, I made a little correction. 0:). "Rubber" is singular.  Who needs two feet/skis/board when the one in the middle is the only one touching the snow! :D

Speaking of ice, snow and slush... I gotta go sweep off driveway. I DON'T want boss to come in and find out I've been laying in bed all morning!

Gotta look busy!

;)

Used to like the Tip across from the prison but its gone now... the old T&C is still on Old Attica Rd but I think its called the Blue Dog Saloon or something like that. The Bennington bowling alley is within 10 miles...

Blue Dog is gone now too.  It turned into a hell hole that even I wouldn't go to.  So it is now called the Hillside or something like that and I've heard good things.

Travel tips:

1) Bennington Bowling Lanes...great spot to meet people early in the morning

2) Look for good cell service around 20A and 77

3) Keep your cell phone attached to your hip...if there’s any way to weld it onto your body do it

4) Keep an extra set of car keys in your pocket

5) Join AAA

6) Travel to East Aurora

7) Go to Wallenweins or The Globe in EA for really great fish fry

8) Have fun Chef!!

Thanks for the advice but I don't need any advice.  Especially when it comes to dumbassery.  I rule that ****!

My co-worker lives in Attica, was a big fan or the Attica hotel. Unfortunately the deal to reopen fell through. She says Louie's lounge is right around the corner from the hotel on 98. American Legion is right across the street from Louie's. She prefers Louie's.

Thanks for the advice but I don't need any advice.  Especially regarding Louie's  My dad owned that place form many years and that's where Chef Jim first put on an apron.  :D

BTW if she hangs at Louie's tell her Jim's headed to town.  She knows me.  :D

Might want to bring an umbrella.

Is your wife coming?

Thanks for the advice but I don't need any advice especially when it comes to umbrellas.  Not a lot of time to get wet.   Car...bar....car....bar....car....bar......

And no the wife isn't coming.  See the last sentence above.

Your annual ski trip is to WNY?

Can you upgrade ?  Jackson is having a great year.

Our big trip is in 2 weeks. Silverton CO here we come! Blows the local I-70 hills out of the water.

Thanks for the advice but I don't need any advice.  Especially when it comes to skiing.  And until you can get my old man (and I mean OLD) to ski anyplace other that Holiday Valley that's where I'll be going to ski.  So bottom line is I'll ski WNY until he dies.

If you get a chance,  go down to Six MileCreek winery.  Good friends with the owner.

Thanks for the advice but I don't need any advice.  Wait....how good of a friend?

They say Uber/Lyft is in EVL, NY... Show a few cars on app... But no rides to be had in BumblePu**k, USA.  Uber is 7 bucks from HV to EVL.  Taxi service 20.

Just words of advice... Don't trust Uber or Lyft in EVL... Son and girlfriend tried to get one for the quick WALK from HV to downtown EVL... None to had. Took taxi to town.  They wanted to head into town for shopping and lunch.  I had to pick those lazy Millennials up at the worst possible time after getting a call mid-run.  I had a primo parking spot up close at 08:30.  I rushed to the truck driving with one ski boot on and normal shoe on right foot... Picked them up and was seconds from getting my parking spot back before somebody took it!  I had to park @ Tannenbaum and walk all the way back to Main Lodge with one ski boot on... I changed in lodge.  Would have been easier if they would have just walked back... But noooo: "We don't wanna walk snow piled 219 to HV Road!"  BABIES!

A week before wife and daughter did same... But at the time of the "seam" between night pass and day pass... That time I got a better spot!  I truly can't force my wife & daughter to walk just after reading somebody got run over in S.Cheektowaga because sidewalks has been blocked with snowbanks!

Just some advice on "country Uber"'.. And who knows what you may get... Boyst on a tractor?

I just noticed something. Chef Jim usually quotes someone then does his “Thanks for the advice but blah blah blah” stuff. But he doesn’t do it to every post in the thread. So conclusion? If he hasn’t quoted and done it with a post, he must be taking that advice.
