NickelCity Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 I am generally of the opinion that bringing Alex Smith on board and drafting a QB high would be a smart move. I think Alex Smith is a good quarterback and would have us in the playoffs until a young QB is ready to go. I was talking with my buddy, and he thinks Smith will be traded for a 1st. That seems like a heck of a price to pay, but I think he might be in more demand than we think. I originally thought (probably too optimistically) that I'd give up a 3rd. I think I could talk myself into a 2nd for him if that's what it took. 1) What do you guys think he will be traded for? 2) Are you willing to make that deal?
Bleeding Bills Blue Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Less than a 1st - hes cheap but only for 1 year. Bradford was affordable for 2 years and fetched a 1st out of desperation. Garroppollo is younger and they got a chance to try before they "buy" - and he only got a 2nd.
JohnBonhamRocks Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 (edited) (1) I feel like I've heard a 3rd a lot. (2) The most I'd give up is a 4th I think. Edit: To clarify, that would be in a scenario where I want to do that. I don't Edited January 17, 2018 by JohnBonhamRocks 3
Just Joshin' Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 A first for an aging, one year rental - not a chance unless he was the last piece needed for a SB.
BigPappy Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 (edited) Just another TT. No to Alex Smith Edited January 17, 2018 by BigPappy 1

BuffaloHokie13 Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 (edited) Under normal circumstances I'd say he's worth a 3rd. In this case, he's a 1 year, $17M rental. 4th at best unless the deal includes an extension. I might be prone to offering a 2019 conditional pick based on starts, performance, or a playoff appearance. Something like a 2019 4th, that can become a 3rd if he starts a playoff game for us, which becomes a 2nd if he starts in a conference championship game. Edited January 17, 2018 by BuffaloHokie13 1
buffaloboyinATL Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Not sure what he will go for but I hope the most we are willing to give up would be a third or maybe a 3rd with a conditional 6-7.
Fortunesmith Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 I think it'd take a pipe, crack, flame and a 3rd to get Alex Smith.
OldTimeAFLGuy Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 ....media speculation says Andy wants a 2nd......and he comes with a $17 mil tariff (one year left).....a 3rd and getting him to agree to a one year extension would be more suitable.....need two years with new 1st round QB pick and Peterman...... 1
Magox Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Sorry but you guys are deluding yourself. I am 90% certain that the very least he will be traded for is a 2nd. Most likely a 2nd and a 3rd or 4th.

BigDingus Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 It'll take at LEAST a 2nd. Hell, the Vikings traded a 1st and 4th for Bradford...and Smith is better, stays healthy, and more consistent than him. Smith isn't exactly "young," but he's still only 33, and as we've seen QB's play at a high level for quite a while longer these days. To put that in perspective, Drew Brees is 39... so imagine if we had Drew Brees from age 33-39. That's a LOT of good/great seasons from that age onward. Smith could potentially play until he's 39 as well, so there's still SOME upside, even if he isn't intended to be the long term answer. 1 minute ago, aristocrat said: i'd rather have tyrod for nothing I'd rather have a competent offense to at least give some semblance of help to our very good defense. 3

BuffaloBillyG Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Smith might do well in the Daboll offense, of course same could be said about several guys that should be available without giving away picks. A 4th is as high as I would go. Other than that I'd wait and see if he gets released. 1
Southern Bills Fan Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Everyone realizes that he was the highest rated QB in the NFL this year right? Higher than Brady, Brees, Rodgers, all of them. A 4th?, A 3rd? I think it's going to be more than that. 1
