SoCal Deek Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Of the four Championship Game participants, three of them ranked one, two and four in Team Defense this year. Minnesota, Jacksonville and Philadelphia are all still in the hunt. Of the Top Four defenses, only Denver didn't make it through. And, of course, then there's New England, who ranked nowhere near the Top 10. 1

row_33 Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Aren't the Pats at the bottom levels on D? If so, you can say a bit more than nowhere near the top 10....

Pats D has been great since week 5. I don't have the splits, but they got their poop together pretty well after that mess of a start
SoCal Deek Posted January 15, 2018 Author Posted January 15, 2018 New England was 29th in Yards Allowed.

SoCal Deek Posted January 15, 2018 Author Posted January 15, 2018 If you go strictly by Points Allowed then Four of the Top Five made it to the Championship games. Only the Chargers broke that mold. And...if you look at the Top Ten in Points allowed you get: Minnesota, Jacksonville, LA Chargers, Philadelphia, New England, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Chicago, New Orleans....with only the Charters, Ravens and Bears not making the Playoffs (and we all know what happened to the Ravens). Interestingly, the four remaining teams were ALL in the Top Eleven in Total Offense as well. They came in at 1, 6, 7 and 11. So, it appears that these four teams are ALL pretty well rounded.
SoTier Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Actually, in points allowed, Minny is #1, Jax is #2, Philly is #4, and NE is #5. It ain't the yards allowed ... it's the points.
row_33 Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 I will choose to believe the Pats are very very weak on D and Belichick and Patricia are doing their best work of their careers in getting this team this far. and that they love the challenge given them this 2017 season.

SoCal Deek Posted January 15, 2018 Author Posted January 15, 2018 You can say it's all points, in the win/loss column, but there are other things that come into play there. My point is that the style of game the remaining teams play is generally to stuff the opponents even before they get close to the Red Zone. I'd imagine that will have some impact on the look and feel of the Championship Games. With that said, however, I found it interesting that the four teams were ALSO very highly ranked in Offensive Yards.

Well thia ia misleading because since Week 4 loss to carolina They have allowed 14ppg which is less than any of the other playoff teams left Also they havr allowed a 59.1 completion % on 485 attempts. 6.04 yards per attempt and only 224.7ypg for a 79.7 passer rating over that time 103.6 yard per game on ground. So if you take out the firat 4 weeks there defensive play has been alot.better Fournette will be a non factor this week bortles is gonna have to win the game on his arm.
Cmdjr85 Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Also they have allowed 3 rushing td in last 13 games

All four teams are indeed playing very good defense this year. (A bit of side note: we also saw that in the College National Championship Game with both Alabama and Georgia featuring really stout defenses.) It all leads me to believe that the Bills are on the right track with Coach McD. Now, we need to see if we can get a half-way decent NFL Quarterback to go with Coach's natural inclination to build around a stout defense.
OldTimer1960 Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 This has long been the mantra - defense wins championships. But you do generally also need a good competent QB along with a good defense. I expect a lot of help to be brought in for the D this offseason.
SlimShady'sSpaceForce Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 said defense allowed 42 points yesterday

True, but I would say if you asked their fans, the personality of every team but the Patriots would be Defense first. And, you might even get a similar response from NE fans with Brady getting older, and a no-name group of WRs and RBs.
