Hard to get excited about this hire. Those that like it want to believe he is some innovative young college OC. He called plays for 1 season at the college level and if you are excited about that then you didn't watch any Alabama football. I literally did not want to watch them many times because of how boring their games are.

He is way more NFL retread than anything, most well known as the OC of the worst offensive attack in the entire league for 2 seasons in Cleveland. He also quickly wore out his welcome in KC where many described his play calling as horrible. He has super bowl rings as an assistant with the Patriots. Everyone does. The guys that deflated the footballs do  too. Even Vladamir Putin has one. Nothing exciting about that. If you are associated with the Pats you are going to get rings. Doesn't mean squat.

The Bills needed an OC to bring an NFL level passing attack and make us a legitimate offensive threat. What we got is a retread with a horrible reputation for calling plays and whose only success was with a team that ran the ball every play and won with defense (sound familiar?). Pardon me for not being excited with this hire but we are going to regret this and we will be looking for another OC after next season. Absolutely zero continuity is a good way to ruin a young QB and keep us in .500 purgatory forever

I understand everyone wants a parade today, and I'm not going to bring up his NFL OC track record again.  I get it, right? He won a national championship, Belichick likes him, etc.  Those are not lost points on me, but someone needs to be realistic here and admit we should be a little cautious/nervous about the hire.  The decision has been made so now he's our guy and I'll root for him as hard as all of you when fall rolls around, but please understand that it's very possible that we have an incredibly boring and ineffective offense this season.

No one is throwing a ticker tape parade. I'm just not interested in having your whole "sorry if I'm too real for you" act. No one knows if this is a good hire, but to sit here and complain about it is ignorant absent an actual sample size of current work.

Moore is a professional. You don't draft a 20 year old and expect him to carry a franchise right away unless you're the Cleveland Browns. Expecting a rookie to be a savior is too much pressure, the idea is to buy him time to learn the playbook, take the pressure off, stall and buy as much time as possible.

This is pretty damn funny.  If you told Daboll you were bringing Moore in as a bridge he would tell you to take your job and stick it where the sun don't shine.  He already coached Moore in 2011 at Miami.  Was not a good look for either of them.  Pretty sure Richie would tell you the same thing.  Moore is a bridge to a dumpster fire.

He hasn't been an NFL OC since 2012 so I don't know what to make of this. He has 5 Super Bowl rings and a NCAA Championship ring so he has plenty of experience in big games.

Guys who make it in the NFL rarely go back to college unless it's b/c that's the best you can do.

Kind of like an actor in movies doesn't quit to go do television.

Alabama and innovative QB play with a strong passing attack go together like pickles and pizza.

Hope this guy surprises me; I'm not expecting much.

Winning is boring?  I'm hoping for a very boring 2018 I guess.

Did you  not pay attention to the process this year? Its run the ball, control the clock, play good defense, get turn overs, win the turn over battle, win the game.

It will be very exciting if it works even better this year.

I would be wary of judging any 'Bama coach based on overall team success.

That team enjoys such a massive talent advantage, even relative to other top college programs, that it kind of clouds the issue of just how good any one coach or player is.

Many of them do now.  Cable TV anyway.

True enough!  That is changing now with the advent of the super cable TV show doing things on an almost cinematic level...never used to be the case though.

Hard to get a good OC to sign here with a starting QB that needs his own Taylor made scheme and has for two straight staffs got his OC fired year one.

Understand. I was responding to the poster saying they were boring. There are no style points in football. If my team wins its anything but boring IMHO.

The disparate talent level is why I don't watch much College football. I don't like blowouts unless its the Bills doing the blowing out like the Raiders game this year at the Ralph.

I'm just hoping for a lot of winning in 2018 some way some how.

Haha, just like Tyrod. He gets his OCs fired year one, year two, year three, looks like year 4 will be no different considering he is a easy scape goat to blame with past fail.

The easiest way to analyze him is like this:

Will he at least have a Quick Slant route called once per game? Answer: pretty sure he will

Will he at least call a screen pass of some sort even just once per game? Answer: pretty sure he will

Looks to me based on those answers, he's already an upgrade over Dennison...

Huh?

How did he inhereit the Alabama OC job? And how does he have little experience?

He was hired by Alabama off the Patriots staff, where he spent much of his career (2000-2006 & 2013-2016).

The guy has 5 super bowl rings and a national championship (he's won both a SB and national championship in the past 11 months). He was Belichick's first hire when he got the Patriots job and was said to be one of Belichick's most trusted employees. Belichick said his knowledge for the game is 2nd to none and that he could coach every position on the field. It was rumored for weeks that he was going to be Belichick's replacement for Josh McDaniels if he gets a head coaching job.

Daboll's been hired by Nick Saban, Eric Mangini and by Bill Belichick, twice.

He's been an offensive coordinator for 4 teams (3 of them NFL teams) and spent 17 years coaching in the NFL. He's been a coach since 1997 and has experience as an offensive coordinator (5yrs), wide receivers coach, tight end coach, QB coach, offeisnce assistant and defensive assistant.

This is what worries me as I don't trust anyone from that org to be loyal to another team in the same division. I see all his employees as being fiercely loyal.

Now should Belichick go to the NY Giants or retire then things are different. We all know that the Patriots will be losing both McDaniels and Patricia this offseason but as long as Mr "if your not cheating, then you're not trying hard enough" is still the HC then I don't see Buffalo beating the Patriots even without Brady. Somehow they will know the Bills offense every offensive move in each game.

So we should expect to have somewhere between the 28th and 32nd most passing attempts. I can’t stress enough how little I agree with this “offensive philosophy”.

Context isn't your thing is it?

Love, love, LOVE this hire!  A guy with extensive experience working for the two best coaches in college and professional football -- with Buffalo roots -- who just spent a year familiarizing himself with the college game.  I don't care about the stats from his previous NFL OC work -- did you see his QBs?

Now, get a new OL coach and we're in business.

I admit some of my positivity toward the hire is based on a belief that he will have learned since his last stint as an NFL OC and be more ready this time. I just think when guys like Belichick and Saban look past your previous failures it suggests you have something.
