This team was put in a lot of bad contracts cap wise during the previous administration. I think you could restructure Glenn and save 7 million which I think will happen. Hughes you are better off cutting in 2019 and saving nearly the full amount of his contract. If the Bills do clean house on these vets it's a move to build cap space for 2019 not 2018. 2019 could see the Bills have massive cap space since Dareus's cap penalty goes away freeing up 14 million and if you cut Hughes, Glenn, and Clay you see a windfall of freed up space but you just don't see that space until 2019. Richie should stay for one more year but he would actually save you 6 million if cut. He played well this past season even if he wasn't as dominant as he was in 2015-2016 he still played above average and I think the team could get one more year out of him and his contract number for an above average guard is pretty reasonable, draft a guard in round 4 and have him learn for a season then let Richie go in free agency. Tyrod I would say is more than likely gone but the veteran they will replace him with will cost as much if not more than him so there is no savings on that contract. Looking at the other big ticket items on the roster I say Shady is safe they should try to get one more good year out of him, draft a RB circa round 3 and have him learn for a season. Im not cutting those guys or suggesting they should, trades are the way to go...and all those savings in salaries go toward younger players.

What team is going to trade for these players at those costs? They are still solid players but they are either hurt (Glenn and Clay) or not living up to their contract numbers (Hughes.) You either cut them now and take the small savings and hope 2019 you see the windfall cash wise. Or you just pay them and the issue off another season.

One of my biggest peeves. Agreed - The likelihood of getting even out to the 25 was low (at least for the Bills) and they run the risk of a hold or clip pinning them deep. If reasonable, I'd like to see them keep:EJ Gaines- defense was much better when he played Preston Brown - a solid veteran whom you'd need to replace if he left. His replacement is probably not on the current roster. Jordan Mathews - I know a lot will flame this, but he proved that he is a good NFL WR in his 3 years in Philly: 67, 85, 73 receptions in his 3 years there. Kyle Williams - As long as he wants to play Seantrel Henderson - If he has his bowel disease under control and doesn't get suspended, he has talent Leonard Johnson and Shareece Wright - good veteran depth and shouldn't be terribly expensive. Cedric Thornton - decent for a DT rotation. Can't replace all the DTs in one offseason. Deonte Thompson - showed enough to warrant coming to camp but should face competition from a speed receiver by way of the draft or Free Agency Nick O'Leary - definitely want to keep him. He showed quite a bit this year (in my opinion)

papazoid Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 the ONLY free agent that matters is EJ Gaines bills were 8-4 when he played, 1-3 when he did not. 1

bkep32 Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 what about maybe jerrik mckinnon coming in via free agency? Mccoy wont be around for much longer and mckinnon has the skill set just not all 3 downs like mccoy. Any thoughts?
