Coach Tuesday Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Great read: https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/01/09/nfl-playoffs-pocket-passing-brees-ryan-roethlisberger-brady-keenum (He also throws one of his friends under the bus at the end of the article. Savage!) 2
Woodman19 Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 (edited) Because if you aren't athletic to scramble for big gains the only thing you can do is throw, unless you are damn good at that you will be replaced. Therefore any Pocket QB who makes it this far (NFL) does that one thing very well. Edited January 10, 2018 by Woodman19

Mr. WEO Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 So when the Saints didn't make the playoffs the previous three seasons in a row, Brees wasn't a pocket passer? King should have just titled it: "Good Teams with Really Good QBs Dominate the Playoffs".
Buffalo716 Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 QBs that can throw from the pocket have been favored since 1965 lol this is nothing new. NFL teams want a QB that can sit in the pocket and throw darts. Not run around like a chicken with its head cut off
Big Gun Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 (edited) Nice read. Interesting that the longer a QB can stay alive in the pocket (Wentz) the more the play design can break down the defense as the defenses are designed to only last roughly 3 seconds. Tyrod is a QB who has one of the highest amounts of time to throw and still fails miserably at it. That said it is a no brainer who the problem is and Tyrod needs to go. I wonder what his article would have said if the Panthers, Seahawks, and Packers were there as they are most years. In the AFC 2 of the 4 teams have qbs that operate outside of the pocket. Not his best work... The last part made him come off like a douche as well. 1
jr1 Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Bortles has 1410 career rushing yards. Total pocket guy

Gugny Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 (edited) Good article. But when have pocket passers NOT ruled the day in the NFL? Steve Young and Russell Wilson, IMO, are the closest to "running QBs" who've won a Super Bowl. And I don't consider either a running QB. Other than those two, I can't think of a Super Bowl champion QB who wouldn't be considered a true pocket passer. I hope it never changes. Edited January 11, 2018 by Gugny 1
twoandfourteen Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 He might as well have titled this article "Don't be a Tyrod." "What’s also carried Keenum, though, is his ability to leave the pocket and improvise when necessary. There’s a place for that, but it must be an offense’s side dish, not the entrée."
GunnerBill Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 To answer Benoit's question.... it is never wrong to veto sushi.
LeGOATski Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 (edited) Holy ****, guys. I think we need a good pocket passer. Update your mocks! Edited January 11, 2018 by LeGOATski Removed double post
