YoloinOhio Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 (edited) After listening to the press conference yesterday and then the ensuing interviews with McBean... predict what you think they will do. Not what you want to happen, but what you actually think will be the OC/ Rookie QB combo in 2018. i think it is clear they aren’t happy with the offense (they said that) and they are going to take a QB in the 1st round (Beane said he’s “seen all the QB’s that matter” and clarified that to mean those projected to go in the 1st). After hearing Beane talk about the QB's....would you eliminate Jackson and Rudolph? He basically said he doesn't want a QB that's so scheme specific this morning on WGR. Maynard Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 I definitely think we’ll end up with Rudolph and I’m gonna guess McCoy
YoloinOhio Posted January 10, 2018 Author Posted January 10, 2018 He said he will pick the QB and wants the OC to tailor to his strengths and cover his weaknesses. So, I took that to mean he’s not going to draft a QB that fits the scheme of the OC, if that makes sense. He said the OC might not always be there so they won’t do that. 1

I really think Beane just wants that traditional pocket passer and IMO, that's not Rudolph or Jackson. Did you listen to the WGR interview? He basically said the negative of getting a scheme specific QB is if you have success, that OC gets a HC job somewhere, then you have to identify another OC that specializes in this QB's skill set. They want someone that can adapt to most schemes.
BuffaloHokie13 Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 McCoy & Rudolph is where I'm at right now, but it's still early.

So, I’m not linking them based on that.for example Denison runs a WCO timing based offense which would be great for Mayfield but I think they will take the QB they want first and foremost. GunnerBill Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Rudolph is the most likely QB to match availability and profile. OC.... I've gone for Rico still being here but with little confidence. I can't bring myself to imagine McCoy or Chud really. That would be so depressing.
jrober38 Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Dennison isn't going anywhere. I think they'll make a run at Baker Mayfield to run their WCO. I'm just not convinced they'll be able to move up high enough to get him.

YoloinOhio Posted January 10, 2018 Author Posted January 10, 2018 I do not think Lamar Jackson fits their player profile or QB profile but he’s projected to go in the 1st so i included him. Another OC who is available is Matt Canada from LSU. He was Peterman’s OC at Pitt. It’s a bit out of the box. But he’s creative and highly thought of. I don’t think it worked out with Orgeron but it wasn’t from an Xs and Os basis from what i hear. 1

I want them to analyze the talent and adapt their scheme based on it. God I hate Rex Ryan!!

buffaloboyinATL Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 If Allen fell to us without having to use both firsts, I would be ecstatic, but I don't believe he will so I guessed Rudolph. (won't you guide my sleigh tonight)

Rudolph, Mayfield, Allen Yeah, I was very happy to see that they are all playing! That video someone posted of all of Rudolph and Washingtons TD's together got me excited. The thought of a combo like that with instant chemistry is very intriguing. 1

His arm is average, he's not particularly mobile and he has no experience operating an offense where he's required to read a defense or call plays. His accuracy is also inconsistent and he was frequently bailed out by his extremely talented group of wide receivers. I don't see any difference between him and Bryce Petty coming out of college. 1

Rudolph, Mayfield, Allen Yeah to me, without having to move up, Rudolph seems to fit the bill. Taking Rudolph and a stud DE like Davenport would seem likely.
