26CornerBlitz Posted January 8, 2018 Author Posted January 8, 2018 From Yesterday after the game: by Will Brinson - CBS Sports WATCH: The Bills probably got hosed by another catch-rule incident in NFL playoffs Buffalo just can't catch a break when it comes to the catch rule this year.
MAJBobby Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 He NFL how about you toss out the catch rule and start from scratch. It shouldnt be this difficult

It shouldnt be this difficult The problem lies in all rule books. Rule books have a spirit of the rule and the letter of the rule. Where football is getting into trouble is they are trying to follow the letter of the rule. We know what a catch looks like however when teams like the Patriots push the boundaries then trouble arises. Remember the ineligible receiver nonsense against the Ravens? When we see a catch we all know what it looks like however many of us would struggle to explain it.

It shouldnt be this difficult I think it’s the frame by frame analysis. Replay was intended to overturn obvious mistakes not break a catch down frame by frame. They need to go back to staying with the call on the field unless it’s obvious. Edited January 8, 2018 by Wayne Cubed 2

BillsFan130 Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 Why does Al riveron screw the bills every time? Did Mcd sleep with his wife or something?
Doc Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 (edited) He did get there early and the ball at least moved, if not hit the ground, so at the very least he didn’t complete the act of catching the football. It applies to defensive backs just like it does to wide receivers. And the Bills probably still would’ve lost, but it’s maddening to see incompetence like that in any game, much less a playoff game. Just from watching games around the league he seems much more comfortable overturning calls. Edited January 8, 2018 by Wayne Cubed
LeGOATski Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 This wasn't the bad call, IMO. The bad call happened before this, when Zay was completely mugged on a pass to the sideline. The CB got there way early and tackled him before he could make the catch. The refs simply decided not to call any PI on that final drive, I guess.

Why did #10 not angle himself between ball & defender like a basketball box out so if Ramsey did drive on the ball the only way he makes the pick is by going thru the body which would have been defensive pass interference? Thompson was part of at least 3 negative plays during the game. I wholeheartedly agree with your point!

It was If your arm is under it how can it hit the ground.... It looks pretty clear to me the nose of the ball hits the ground. He could still have his hand on the middle of the ball ( which he may have) but the nose still hit the ground and the ball cleary moved. So he never maintained possesion Edited January 8, 2018 by BananaB
MAJBobby Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 (edited) Here is why it is still a catch. And jesus this rule is so long for just explaining what a freaking catch is Note: If a player has control of the ball, a slight movement of the ball will not be considered a loss of possession. He must lose control of the ball in order to rule that there has been a loss of possession. the ENTIRE rule in all ita glory https://operations.nfl.com/the-rules/nfl-video-rulebook/completing-a-catch/ Edited January 8, 2018 by MAJBobby
buffaloboyinATL Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 was hard to tell at the game, but seeing the replay now there is no doubt that it was NOT a catch. Riveron is so freaking crooked.

Play the second video and stop it at various points. You can stop it with the ball hitting the ground, and a split second later you can stop it with the fingers of his right hand extend and then regripping the ball. That was not an interception.

His hands weren’t under it the ball as it touched the ground. Also when you’re falling to the ground you have to have complete control of the ball all the way through.

Admit it though if the Patriots then it would have been overturned. ball hits the ground and bounces back into him. I hope McD or Terry rips the NFL for this. That ball bobbles/bounces off the ground WAY MORE than Jesse James (Steelers-TE) did when he caught the game winning catch against the Al Riveron's Patriots.

If the ball hits the ground he loses his grip on the ball, that's an incompletion. 1
