If I were Sammy, I wouldn't want to stay in LA. They don't even throw him the ball. Go somewhere where they'll throw to you once in a while Sammy.

Yeah, they may be able to get him back short term but long term I don't see him as a good fit with Goff.    Goff doesn't excel at the deep ball and that's such a big part of Sammy's game.

Tagged players don't command the salaries of the tag as AAV, on the whole.

Well, typically the tagged player won't sign any long-term deal that doesn't include guaranteed cash flow in the first two years that equals the value of two consecutive tags.

In the case of a WR in 2018, that amount would be $36M in the first two years

Interesting.

I don't believe Cordy Glenn did.

I wonder if he'll meet with the Bills in FA. I'm sure someone else will pay big for his potential but... who knows, and the Bills still need a speedy deep threat WR. Wouldn't that be funny if he came back at a modest price?

More realistically, I have a feeling he's going to end up with the Jags, Cowboys or Saints.

Man, if the Saints aren't handcuffed by Brees deal, and Watkins ends up there, ooh wee that's a FORMIDABLE offense!!  I'd go as far as to predict them in the NFC championship game....

Cordy got the tag at a value of $13.7M; a second consecutive tag would've been a 25% increase--$17.125M.  The total guaranteed cash flow in those two years would be $30.825M.

According to Spotrac, Glenn signed a 5-year, $60M deal with $36M guaranteed.  The signing bonus (paid immediately) was $16M, and his 2016 and 2017 base salaries (which total $12M) were fully guaranteed at signing.  When you add in the portions of his 2018 salary that fully guarantee early in the 2017 league year as well as his roster bonus, his guaranteed cash flow in the first 2 years was an even $30M.

Well would you look at that?

If they got the Giants early 4th round pick for Ogletree they'd be in a great position to trade that to Pittsburgh for Martavis Byrant on his $700K peanuts contract and get the deep "threat" they need.

If the Steelers want to move him, he'd be an excellent fit at a bargain basement price.

That depends on what he gets for a contract, how he does, and what the Rams do in FA.

I don't wonder at all... they won't.

That's what I was getting at.

Obviously, but they likely won't be doing much with so many of their own players to take care of.

I look at Sammy as a similar player to DeSean Jackson. Jackson is a big play player whose presence on the field pops the defense a bit which opens up a lot of other aspects of the offense. But he isn't a dominant game changer on a consistent enough basis. Jackson got 11 milllion avv, I suspect Sammy who is younger but has a longer injury history will want that much plus a little more coming off of a healthy season. I think 5 years 55 million is what Sammy gets with a 20ish million guarantee. Not sure if that is too much for the Rams or not but some team will give him something in that range.

From ESPN Insider:

15. Sammy Watkins, WR

2017 team: Rams | Age: 25
Projected contract: One year, $13 million
Similar situation to Robinson's, except Watkins did make it through this year healthy and is seen as a potential No. 1 wideout, so his number is higher. Teams will want to see Watkins (A) stay healthy again and (B) play to his draft pedigree before committing long term.
