I find it funny when people simply break down the point further as if it's essentially an argument. I get it... trust me... smh. Have fun with your delorian playing that one out. Don't forget to account for the wind condition. Meanwhile, looking forward to next year's season and potential playoff game might be a better use of ones time. Its over. It was a fun ride, but it is what it is. This is what 2017 was meant to be. Retool and look ahead to 2018.  If not...well...maybe when the answer has been reached youll choose to go back and evaluate how the Broncos season would have played out w tyrod on the roster. At least that'll keep you busy while meaningful discussion is happening elsewhere.

That's true and it pry didn't deserve its own thread, but that had to be going through the mind of Beane and McDermott today.  What QB can we get so we put up more than three points against a quality defense like this?  Would the presnap blocking adjustments Taylor failed to make be made by Smith (or any potential FA QB)?  You then go back to the tape and look at those QB's in similar situations.  It's just a small part of the evaluation process when it comes to the offseason.

Smith is meh and that's why he's about to be on his 3rd team.

Smith is meh Tyrod is garbage and is also about to be on his third team. Of course not as a starter

It's a perfectly reasonable question since everyone knows Smith will be on the trading block starting, umm, yesterday.  And given that Bortles looked about as bad as any playoff QB can in the first half, both of these teams would be nuts not to at least explore what it would take to get Smith for 2018.

Smith's playoff record is 1-4 with the Chiefs.

And yet, Smith has been unable to engineer the required offense to win the playoff games he's played, including yesterday's against the Flaming Thumbtacks.

Is it not somewhat dishonest to ignore Smith's playoff record?

And he's now 2-5 overall, but this is the 2nd game with KC (Indy in 2013) where he did his part to get a big lead that they couldn't hold.

I would say even more for the Jaguars whose defense is outstanding.  Smith would be a perfect fit there and they could really do some damage.

Taylor would overthrow them or not throw to them.

Something Smith doesn’t do.

Smith is significantly better than Taylor and it’s not even close.

Smith a little less agile version of Tyrod Taylor.  Alex Smith consistently tucks and runs instead of thread a dart to open receivers down field.  Watching the Chiefs yesterday and Bills today made me think of how similarly average those two are.

2 seasons ago Alex Smith didn’t have a TD pass to a wide receiver for a while season... that’s incredibly pathetic

I hope neither are part of our future plans

I'd just like to point out that the Chiefs have, in fact, not yet moved on from 'Alex the Great'.

If they do, it is likely to be strictly a salary-cap driven decision.  Right now the Chiefs are projected $4.8M in the red for the new league year.

They have to do something, and cutting or trading Smith saves them ~$10M in cap space.

Their other two top-paid players are already signed through 2020 or 2021, so they probably don't want to renegotiate their contracts, and with Mahomes waiting, they probably don't want to extend Smith either.

This

Smith's contract isn't that expensive for an NFL QB.  They plan to move on from him because they see Mahomes as the guy that can take them beyond just making the playoffs with 1st round exits every year, so it's much more than a cap consideration.

Easily. Bortles was doing that EJ Manuel thing, deciding how to aim/throw mid motion. It was so bad and so noticeable. As soon as he started doing it everyone knew he would turn it over but Tre dropped the gimme.

After that he decided to use his legs and stop throwing.

I don't care. I don't want to watch Alex Smith. Keep drafting guys until you hit on one. At least they have potential.

But the question here is more like, "would this offense, QB'd by Alex Smith, put up at least a TD + 2 point conversion and a FG."  With the bar set that low, I say yes.

So our goal is just to beat Jacksonville in a wild card game?

I was happy they made it, more happy than I expected. But I do not want to become the Texans or chiefs and make the playoffs and just lose. Alex Smith has shown that's what he does.

I like Alex Smith but we need a deep threat. Tyreek Hill was really good this year. 1,183 yards and 7 TDs on just 75 receptions. Smith had the best passer rating in the league and Tyreek Hill was a big part of that.

Don't forget Kelce as a big factor in his success.

He threw for more yards in the first half than Taylor did in the game. Not his fault they stopped giving it to Hunt.

Taylor is terrible and I’m glad he’s going to be gone.

Almost doubled taylors yards

He couldn't even lead his own team to victory yesterday.

To be fair, that may have been the worst called games I have ever Seen. The Chiefs got royally jobbed.
