Another Fan
I think everyone not including those afflicted with this "crippling disorder" should spend a day per month in the wilderness without electronics.
Augie
I know a person who was in rehab for this. I wish I was kidding. A nice guy in his 20’s with a daughter. He’d play for days at a time on Monster drinks and lose his mind battling people from all over on ridiculous stuff. He had endorsements and everything. I knew nothing about this world before I met him. It’s real. Not good, but real.

Yes, but for far less than what rehab costs. And in rehab he was prohibited for that activity, so it was a lose/lose. Did you know many rehabs cost about $1,000/day? I was unaware of that until we learned the hard way.

By all accounts he’s doing well now and being a responsible dad. I have a very good friend who’s son is barely functional because he does on-line video competition stuff until the sun comes up. He’s in his mid-20’s and living at home. Bright kid with a very low level job.
BringBackFergy
I enjoy a few XBox games here and there, but this is crazy stuff. After watching a few YouTube vids of “professional gamers” who were bragging about being up for 24 hrs straight, I came to the realization that I’ll never be good enough to stay up all night. Let me blow a few things up and I’m cool with it.

Lot better than a two bit barrister and late night carp fisherman! 2 hours ago, Augie said: Yeah, he was a friend of my son. By all accounts he’s doing well now and being a responsible dad. But it can be a grind... Constantly working putting out videos, etc... But, they are playing games. Ad revenue is huge! Saxum
In the game I play there are players who spend all day on it and make money selling items to convert to game coins and then sell the game coins for $$$ on black market (illegal in game but not penalized if player found doing it). There are players who will act friendly for a period and help you out and then being a friend will ask to borrow character (password sharing is again illegal but not penalized and if you get in trouble you are on your own) and then change password and sell the character. One player I know paid over $1K real money for a top character, spent hundreds of dollars in shop and then was deceived into loaning character to friend and had character stolen. Game owner really hated this for this cut out the sales to the player but could not stop it due to his rules. This character was stolen again from the thief by another thief and given back to original owner but player lost taste for game and rarely plays now and no longer buys in shop. There is another player (actually a group of players) from Russia who are actually paid by game master to kill players to get they to lose an item only purchasable from shop to generate sales. The game owner actually changed rules to favor this player every time someone found a way around his roadblocks. This player was found using an illegal client and was suspended when enough players quit or refused to buy from shop. Talk about a crooked casino this game. row_33
My last PlayStation a few years ago went right down the garbage chute when I realized I was playing way too much for my own good.

Ad revenue is huge! The first guys had sponsors and did make money for it. The second guy does it so much he literally makes him self ill by neglecting his well being and living like a pig in the bedroom his parents allow him to stay in. He’s pretty good with tech stuff in general, but the gaming and slovenly habits make him unemployable at any high level. He can barely hold down a job at a fast food joint. They are both addicted and it does bad things to them. One went to rehab, and the other probably should. It’s like asking an alocoholic to drink for a living. Bizarre, I know. I never got into the gaming thing.

Fadingpain
I've been waiting for a while for "plays with cell phone every 20 seconds all day long" to be considered an official disorder as well. It is. It's a form of addiction similar to smoking and not healthy.
