Best Player Available Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 The rivarly exsists. we know several fish fans in Florida. They remember the old days. The rivarly doesn't exsist for players, and coaches though. Some or maybe most of them never knew it exsisted. The rivarly today is based on games played the past few years though.
BobbyC81 Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 Miami is still a divisional opponent that the Bills play twice a year.

Yes...it only feels like it matters less because both teams have been mostly mediocre or worse for so long and we both have a common Evil Enemy in the Cheatriots. Its like when two arch enemies temporarily team up to fight a bigger mutual enemy. Once the Pats fall down he ladder and both Bills and Dolphins become better teams (assuming both or either do) then it will matter again. Its just the utter dominance by the Pats and futile teams both Bills and Dolphins have mostly rolled out has made the rivalry shine fall off a bit.

While the 70's Dolphin dominance created the rivalry (BTW, they WERE very good) and the early 80's wins against them were inspiring, it reached the peak during the Kelly/Marino SB years. After that, no one cared. Shula and Marino were gone and then they pretty much have sucked like us for the most part. No-name coaches, QB's. Stadium that has changed it's name multiple times. Trust me, I still don't like them, but damn if I hate the F****** Patriots SO MUCH MORE!!!!! It's their arrogance, the cheating, complete control of AFC East and the BS calls that the Pats* always get. I hate Brady, I respect, but hate Belicheck and Kraft is a POS. So, yeah.....no more Dolphin rivalry, but boy do the Pats* create a lot of anger issues!!!! If Miami was the one winning 5 SB's, going to the AFC title game yearly etc.. no Dolphin fan would even step foot in the Ralph with how much that rivalry hits in terms of passion. I still think it can comeback with some real passion but one of the teams needs to get good again to piss the other side off. If both are good at the same point it would be to the level Seahawks 49ers were.
nucci Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 If both teams were in the playoffs regularly then it would matter more
buffalobloodfloridahome Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 If you think for one second Miami would not revel in the fact that they took us out of the playoffs your sadly mistaken. They have not forgotten the domination in the 90's like we haven't forgotten the 70's and early 80's against them. Sundays game will be no walk in the park. They are too talented a team to look past and as they showed against the Pats can turn it on and be dangerous. That being said Smoking Jay Cutler is probably already in vacation mode and will fake an injury by halftime.
BillsPride12 Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 It absolutely died out, anybody thinking the rivalry still matters is either in denial or wasn't around for the prime Hated Dolphins years. I feel like the last time a Bills Dolphins truly felt the way it used to was the Snow Game in 2002...second best game during the drought behind the Pats game in 2011!
Bob in STL Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 Yes, of course. The rivalries matter most when you matter. This is just our 2nd week 17 that mattered in 17 years. It's hard to keep a rivalry with anyone when you're irrelevant.
row_33 Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 Games in Miami have been the most boring to watch from the 70s to present. Something about the location makes it a snooze.
Helpmenow Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Goes way back further than Brian cox giving the finger.
ChasBB Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Nope, should have changed divisions when the NFL re-organized many years ago. Only stayed in division w/Miami because Ralph wanted it that way.
row_33 Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Thank goodness the Fish stayed and the Colts left the division Peyton and Brady going 4-0 with ease would have been too much if we think we’ve suffered enough as it really was
Chicken Boo Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 (edited) The Bills bar I go to in Herndon, VA has a Phins bar directly across the street. Makes for a fun time! For anyone who had the privilege of seeing Kelly v Marino, this rivalry should always have legs. Edited December 29, 2017 by Chicken Boo
oldmanfan Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Anyone of my age would say yes. If you had to live through the 70's you'll hate the Fish until football is no longer played.
Chuck Wagon Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 I grew up during Kelly - Marino. I hate the Dolphins. But I believe NFL rivalries are fluid. Tough to have a true rival when there aren't real stakes.
RoyBatty is alive Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 To some fans, yes..to the organization/team/players...squat. To me, nah. Memories of all those years of Miami dominance make me realize that even the Pats dominance wlil someday come to an end.
Sweats Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 We had a good rivalry with the Kelly/Marino era, but now it's like watching a dumpster fire and a trainwreck on a collision course.
