Trump hugging the flag?  A #MeToo moment.

It looked odd to me initially but thinking about it for a minute brought one thing to mind. He was proclaiming his love of this country for all to see. Brilliant move.

Or he was going for the cheap visual.

I guess that depends on your perspective but criticism of it looks bad and unpatriotic. This was part of what I think will be his 2020 campaign. It'll be Trump, apple pie, capitalism and the economy against the New Green Deal, Medicare for all and socialism. The Left will need to spend their time denying that they are socialists while simultaneously promoting socialist programs. It'll be Orville Redenbacher time.

It's criticized because Trump in being Trump made it look very awkward.   I file it in the same category as him proclaiming that the Bible was his favorite book.

While I find that doubtful, it didn't hurt him. Trump knows how to play a crowd and does so with the skill of a WWE announcer or a circus ringmaster. I personally find his histrionics embarrassing but will judge him on what he accomplishes.

As is nearly always the case with Trump, he could have achieved the same goal without the creepy hugging of the flag.   Because now, it gave an opening to his opponents to laugh at him, without appearing that they're laughing at the flag.  Because Trump gotta be Trump.

Without the histrionics Trump wouldn't be Trump. I personally would prefer the eloquence and humor of Reagan but Reagan is long gone. If Trump changed his persona he would be seen as fake and he wouldn't be Trump anymore.

CNN (Certainly Not News) sold its soul to the leftists early on and is now reaping the dubious rewards of that decision.  Unlike SoCal Deek, I do fault them for it.  They took a business with an established reputation for middle of the road reporting and shifted to a far left focus.  CNN should be considered an ad agency rather than a mainstream media outlet.

All sorts of companies change their business model as society and technology changes. The problem with CNN is that they still sell this trash as straight news. It’s clearly garbage. McDonalds tries to sell salads from time to time but it always fails miserably!

You misspelled the ad agency. It's spelled "Fox". Propaganda and outright lies. Nothing comes close to comparing, nothing.

Nice try! Fox makes an intentional and almost daily repeated distinction between its news shows and its opinion shows. It’s not unlike a newspaper that has news articles and also an editorial page.

Since this thread is dedicated to the CNN propaganda and outright lies, why don't you just go to the Fox thread and complain about them there?

As Tom states, Fox clearly delineates between it’s news and opinion broadcasts.

CNN does not.

CNN promotes its editorial content as news, and worse, actively manufactures content it portrays as news.

Not that clear.  I still laugh at the memory of they breaking in to Iraq war coverage so Neil Cavuto could interview Rupert Murdoch about the launch of his new "conservative news" satellite.   Like the satellite has a political position.

What they ARE clear about is that they are a conservative news organization.  It makes it slightly easier to separate the spin from the facts - significantly easier right now, actually.  At worst, I'd say Fox tells you what they think, whereas CNN tells you what you should think (and MSNBC just tells you to be angry.)

Reminded me of the 51-3 beating of the Raiders in the AFC Championship game where they kept breaking in for the 1st Iraqi war news. Every time they came back to the game we had scored again. I still have that game on a VCR tape.

All I remember of that game is watching it with someone who got up in the middle of the second quarter and said "I feel sorry for the Raiders.  They have to be here for the whole game."  And walked out.

I remember my neighbor was a band wagon Raiders fan.  He called me in the second quarter wanting to come over and play Joe Montana Football

I was working that day in a restaurant in Beverly Hills. And for some reason we had to listen to the game on the radio in Spanish. I guess that was back in the day when I didn’t have the balls to say “hey *****stick this is America!  We speak English here!!”  I did learn a new term though. Otra vez = again. That’s what the announcers kept saying after Schroeder’s 5 interceptions. Of course they were all Raider fans. It was a beautiful day.
