HOUSE Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 (edited) Raiders let promising rookie CB Breon Borders get away, signed by the Bills 22 comments By Levi Damien@LeviDamien Dec 15, 2017, 8:35pm PST Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports There it is. The Raiders have lost undrafted rookie cornerback Breon Borders. He has been signed by the Bills off the team’s practice squad, according to Vic Tafur of the Athletic Just yesterday, I mentioned that the Raiders should send Amari Cooper to injured reserve and one of the reasons was to ensure they didn’t lose Borders to another team. And now it’s happened. Borders was one of the few standout undrafted rookies during the offseason and training camp and at one time was running with the first team, while the team was disappointed with Sean Smith. He didn’t make the team out of camp and was placed on injured reserve. There were several times this season the team was down to just three cornerbacks on the roster and STILL they didn’t call up Borders from the practice squad. They instead called up Darius Latham only to make him inactive on game day. David Amerson will miss his 8th straight game Sunday, but they haven’t sent him to IR, which could’ve opened the door for Borders. They sent Obi Melifonwu to injured reserve Friday, but it was to activate Antonio Hamilton from injured reserve, not to sign Borders. It’s just weird. Of all the potential this undrafted rookie displayed, they just let him walk away with no effort to retain him. Utterly ridiculous and confusing personnel decisions. https://www.silverandblackpride.com/2017/12/15/16784008/raiders-let-promising-rookie-cb-breon-borders-get-away-signed-by-the-bills Edited December 16, 2017 by HOUSE
CSBill Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Well, this guy thinks he's good. But then again, there is a reason GM's and Coaches don't take fan and sports writer opinion polls before they make personnel moves. Nonetheless, let's hope he's right and the Bills have pulled off a Patriot-like move here. 1

You mean drafting Tom Brady simply because of his last name being Irish, and getting incredibly lucky that he worked out when their longtime franchise QB was blasted in the back?

SoCal Deek Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 So according to this guy the Raiders had nobody left leaning up against the Gymnasium wall and the team STILL didn't pick him to play? Sounds like the last kid in gym class to me! (But ya never know.)
OldTimeAFLGuy Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 (edited) ...Zierlein was spot on with his projection............. Analysis Strengths Three-year starter who has posted tremendous ball production at Duke. Plays with quality pattern recognition and jumps the route hard once he reads it. Isn't satisfied unless he is swiping at and disrupting a catch. Good leaper who times his jumps. Has had 26 passes defensed over last two seasons and 12 interceptions during his career. Plays with quality instincts inside his coverage. Has a feel for angles and uses it to undercut routes. Willing to step downhill quickly when it is time to support the run. Weaknesses Gets too upright and narrow from his backpedal when asked to flip his hips in transition. Slow to mash the gas and accelerate after receivers beat him from press coverage. Allows vertical separation leading to big plays. Allowed high numbers in yardage per catch throughout his career. Missing instant twitch to match routes out of their breaks. Desire to make plays causes him to lag behind deep coverage if he sees a bait route drifting into his coverage area. Doesn't carry much force as a tackler. Draft Projection Round 7-PFA Bottom Line Borders' ball production and completion percentage against over the last two seasons (38.3 percent in 2016 and 42 percent in 2015) are indicative of his instincts and ball skills. Borders chances as an NFL cornerback could be dampened by his inability to carry long speed down the field. He's a late-round pick or undrafted free agent who is best suited in off-man or zone coverage. -Lance Zierlein Edited December 16, 2017 by OldTimeAFLGuy
Steptide Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 I'm surprised the bills signed him so late in the season. Can't imagine this guy will have any impact on this season. What do I know though
H2o Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Well, we saw what happened when the Pats plucked a no name LB from our PS. Maybe this is the universe balancing itself out?
artmalibu Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Great flyer. He now has a year of NFL practice, and they get a few weeks this season to see what they have. Could slightly lessen the need in the draft... 1
Steve O Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 must be the roster move they weren't gong to make at this time by moving Glenn to IR
Luka Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Sounds like a zone guy, exactly what we're after. 2
YoloinOhio Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Sounds like their version of Brandon Reilly
KW95 - JA17 Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 the kid has been there all year. Not 1 other team had intererest...let's hope for the best...
LeGOATski Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Has potential. Fits the scheme. +1 like 1
HOUSE Posted December 16, 2017 Author Posted December 16, 2017 You don't judge players from College scouting reports, you judge after he is on a pro roster or practice squad....

If he plays well, they could sign him to a small deal going into next season. If he plays well, then you got another corner which is a need. If not, you cut him and no harm done. Keep bringing in competition to get better
