Mark Vader
The final month of the year is here and the Holiday Season brings us the last of it's big hits for the year and a bunch of Oscar contenders getting their platform releases in time for the deadline. Movie studios have held back on nationwide releases for the first two weeks of this month, letting Thanksgiving holdovers make as much as they can, giving plenty of breathing room away from the giant blockbuster waiting for release this month. Only a handful of movies open nationwide this month as a majority of Independent Films are being released. I'll get to those films later, for now it's time for everyone to return to a galaxy far, far away.... Disney & Lucasfilm continue the space saga with "Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi". Having taken her first steps into the Jedi world, Rey joins Luke Skywalker on an adventure with Leia, Finn and Poe that unlocks mysteries of the Force and secrets of the past. Starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Domhnall Gleeson, Billie Lourd, Oscar Issac, Gwendoline Christie, Laura Dern, Andy Serkis & Benicio Del Toro. Directed by Rian Johnson. Columbia Pictures presents, "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle". Four teenagers discover an old video game console and are literally drawn into the game's jungle setting becoming the adult avatars they chose. Starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, & Karen Gillan. Hugh Jackman is, "The Greatest Showman". Inspired by the imagination of P.T. Barnum, The Greatest Showman is an original musical that celebrates the birth of show business and tells of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation. Also starring Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Zac Efron & Michelle Williams. Matt Damon stars in, "Downsizing". A social satire in which a guy realizes he would have a better life if he were to shrink himself. Also starring, Christoph Waltz, Hong Chau & Kristen Wiig. In the animated "Ferdinand", A bull with a big heart, is mistaken for a dangerous beast, then captured and torn from his home. Determined to return to his family, he rallies a misfit team on the ultimate adventure. Starring the voices of John Cena, Kate McKinnon, Bobby Cannavale & David Tennant. The Bellas are back in "Pitch Perfect 3". Following their win at the world championship, the now separated Bellas reunite for one last singing competition at an overseas USO tour, but face a group who uses both instruments and voices. Starring Anna Kendrick, Ruby Rose, Hailee Steinfeld, Brittany Snow, Rebel Wilson, Alexis Kanpp, Anna Camp, Hana Mae Lee, Chrissie Fit, Ester Dean, Shelley Regner, Elizabeth Banks & John Lithgow. Finally, in "Father Figures", Upon learning that their mother has been lying to them for years about their allegedly deceased father, two fraternal twin brothers hit the road in order to find him. Starring Owen Wilson, Ed Helms, JK Simmons, Katt Williams, Terry Bradshaw, Ving Rhames, Christopher Walken & Glenn Close. DC Tom
I am going to find The Last Jedi very depressing, because...Carrie Fisher's last performance. But it's the cast of Jumanji that's going to make me slit my wrists.

Buffalo_Gal
Jumanji ! Jumanji ! Jumanji ! I wasn't interested until I saw The Rock was in it, and he's so yummy I'd see nearly anything with him in it. I draw the line at Fast and Furious crap but did sit through The Scorpion King. I have not really liked a Star Wars film since The Empire Strikes Back (Return of the Jedi was ok, but those Ewoks...). I am waffling on The Last Jedi. I'll probably go see it, but maybe not opening week.Pitch Perfect was fabulous! Pitch Perfect 2 was ... not. I'll probably suffer through Pitch Perfect 3 when it comes to HBO or Showtime or whatever premium channel it ends up on, but will not waste money in the theater to see it. shrader
Based on the trailer for Pitch Perfect, are those movies nothing but a series of fat jokes? But anyway, hmmmm, I wonder which one on this list most people will be seeing.

The first one was unique and funny (I "think" a few "Fat Amy" jokes). The second one yeah... just not a good movie and I "think" a lot more fat "jokes" (if they were funny, I certainly do not remember them).

Buffalo_Gal
Ok, so my son and I saw Star Wars this afternoon. At one point I leaned over to him and whined, "How much longer does this go on?" I just like what I like, he's a film buff that dissects movies from all angles. We agreed that this was meh and did nothing to advance the story. I got a few chuckles out of it here and there, but all-in-all felt like it could have been much better.
Bills4everNY
I saw "The Darkest Hour" today. Great movie. Gary Oldman was excellent as Winston Churchill.
Mark Vader
Yesterday I spent the whole day at the movie theater, and did a triple feature. What a great time it was. First I watched, "I, Tonya". Very good. Margot Robbie is great. Lots of funny moments and sad moments too. Gives a very good perspective on how everything was portrayed in the media and what actually happened. Allison Janney is very good, as is Sebastian Stan. Next up was, "The Shape of Water". Outstanding movie. Guillermo del Toro has a great flare for his movies, and you see it throughout this film. Sally Hawkins is great, and Michael Shannon is very good as well. I don't think it's the best picture of the year, but I can understand why it's getting such high marks. Finally, I ended my day with "Darkest Hour". Another outstanding movie with a fantastic performance by Gary Oldman. He simply owns this film. Great job of portraying what the first few weeks of Churchill's time as Prime Minister was like. All of these movies are worth seeing, although I can't say that "The Shape of Water" is for everyone. Still, give them all a look.
