Astrobot Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 Downfield blocking for our offense is going to be important. The 5 yard limit on cornerbacks adds blocking to the wish list when searching for a competent wide receiver. Moulds and Evans, and Aiken for that matter, can be seen blocking for each other quite effectively downfield. My guess is we pick up a tough WR adept at blocking, so I did some research into their draft bio's. I starred some. 2nd-3rd Round or Thereabouts: Fred Gibson - OK blocker * Reggie Brown - very strong, solid * Terrence Murphy - strong, sturdy frame...Tough, not a #1 receiver * Mark Bradley - Explosive, benefited by playing opposite Clayton Later Picks: * Vincent Jackson - 6'4", 241 Strong...good hands...Will jump over DBs to make the grab...good punt returner * Brandon Jones - 6'1", 210 solid build...Has good hands...strong, powerful...very physical...Isn't afraid to block...excellent ST player. * Craphonso Thorpe - great leaper, can outjump CBs...Tough player who is willing to block. Moving up some value boards. Last Picks: * Larry Brackins - Raw (community college)..tremendous leaper...Very strong...amazing natural athlete...decent speed and quickness..physical, willing blocker..Good RAC. * Roydell Williams - Tulane WR......Tough, very strong...Not afraid to go over the middle for a catch...Has very solid hands. I don't think we'll be drafting WR in the early rounds, so I was interested in the "Value Receivers" the most. Jackson, Jones, and Williams interest me the most. Would like your input, both on where you think WR will be drafted, and any info on players.
Navy Chief Navy Pride Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 wasn't Roydell Williams JP"S go to guy?
jarthur31 Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 We need a safety valve for JP; a guy who can make the clutch 3rd down catch. Not a burner, just a guy with great hands. In essence, everything Josh Reed was supposed to be but wasn't. Makes you wonder how this bust won the Biletnikoff(sic) award.
Tipster19 Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 I don't think that it's a big priority where we would have to use a 1st day pick on it but grabbing a nice sleeper with a late rounder (5th or later) wouldn't be too hateful. Here's two suggestions based on stats that are attractive. The first one being Maine's Christian Pereira. Close to 6'4"/227 lbs., he's quite a load. His last 2 years (jr.& sr.) were almost identical. In '03 he had 52 recs / 820 yds. / 10 tds. with an 15.8 yd. avg. He followed up in '04 with 58 recs / 818 yds. / again 10 tds. with a 14.1 yd. avg. Also his hometown is the Bronx. He has the makings of being western N.Y.'s kind of guy. Here's another guy that could be a bigger sleeper than Rip Van Winkle. Valparaiso's Rob Giancola (if you're from N.Y., ya gotta love that name). He's just shy of 6'/219 lbs. He's got impressive stats but in '03 he was off the charts. 57 recs / 1496 YDS.!!! / 23 FREAKING TDS. (that's approaching McGahee type #s)/ with a whopping 26.2 yd. avg. I would just like us to solidify our O-line first, develope more depth at SS and LB, and I don't know who this 3rd string QB is, but if the administration isn't absolutely crazy about him then spending a 4th or 5th rounder on grooming another QB with potential for down the road might not be a bad idea. Anyways, I'm really looking forward to this year's draft and season.
Inahaze Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 wasn't Roydell Williams JP"S go to guy? 266053[/snapback] Yes Roydell was JP's "guy" at Tulane; but I do not belive he is rated very high. What about Aiken.....every one thinks that we need another reciever when in reality we have good recievers who are just starting to work with a good coaching staff....plus Aiken excelled last year in his open feild blocking, and if I am not mistaken averaged 13.5 yards per reception and had 6 first down receptions....Aiken could prove to be a commodity, now that his injury is healed! I do not see the Bills drafting a reciever in this draft.....a possibility exists but at the most would be a late day 2 pick IMO

He is definiyly a day 2 guy but why not get him in the 6th or 7th? Cant hurt.
Happy Days Lois & Clark Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 Josh Reed is a blocking wide reciever but he has problems getting open and drops too many passes. GIve me someone with who can separate and has decent hands
