Yeah...I can find highlight films with blocks like JuJu's being called "great."

You yourself probably cheered when Nate Clements did that to Mr. Bundchen.

I just don’t get it. Juju was blocking Burfict on the field of play while he was in pursuit of a runner. Clean hit or not, he was flagged for taunting and I could see a fine. Guys aren’t usually suspended for that kind of block. How the F is in the same suspension category as what Gronk did??? If he gets one Gronk should get 3.

It's going to be a bit weird yelling for blood on Xmas eve but I'm sure I won't be alone in doing it. I don't like seeing someone get hurt but that was way over the top for me.

It's compounded by the local media, Zolak in particular, still playing it up and still saying that it's on Buffalo and the refs. Pretty embarrassing.

someone in boston needs to give zolak's yard the mckelvin treatment

It's ridiculous. They're so patently different plays, to warrant the same punishment is beyond absurd.

If he gets one game for this block, Gronkowski should be suspended for half a season, the two plays are that different.

I didn’t think I could get any angrier than I was yesterday, but they managed to get me there! Blood pressure rising.

Gronk apologized.  JuJu taunted.  Who do you think represents the league's current bull **** facade of "Hey, sometimes we make mistakes, but really we're good guys who care, honest?"

Juju apologized afterward as well and it was much more sincere

Yes, but he apologized for that mistake!

He shouldn't have.  It was a clean block.

Yup, I had to explain this to some Pats fans, using a criminal justice analogy.

Yes, assault is identified in the same category, but there are stricter punishments handed down due to the evidence, intent behind the assault, and so on.

JuJu's was in the middle of the play and yet still a dirty play, but it was between the lines. Gronk's was when the play was dead, and had nothing to do with football at that moment. He lined him up, and took his shot.

They just need to standardize penalties. It's probably Goodell's fault for doing everything ad hoc.

Defenseless player hit to the head? Ejection. Hit after the whistle? Ejection. Hit after the whistle in the head? Suspended 1 game. Hit after the whistle, in the head, out of bounds, lying down and already touched by a defender, with a bionic elbow? Chemical castration.

Ok, yes...maybe the defenseless player rule #9 applies here.

9. A player who receives a “blindside” block when the path of the offensive blocker is toward or parallel to his own end line.

JuJu was at least running parallel to his own endline (if not toward it).

But like so many things in the NFL, "blindside" is left up to interpretation. If you watch the video in the link that MAJBobby supplied,

see the hits at 1:30, 1:48, 2:06, 2:25, and 2:30. Blindside still seems a bit murky to me. The hits at 1:30 and 2:30 are noted as legal

hits by the NFL and those look like they came as much or more from the blindside as JuJu's hit.

https://operations.nfl.com/the-rules/nfl-video-rulebook/defenseless-player/

Maybe I'm just an old guy who was used to those hits being legal for most of my football watching days that I don't think of them as illegal.

Or maybe it is just the NFL, who has a hard time making their rules clear for all situations.

But he's going to be suspended for the block.  Because he didn't apologize, even though he didn't need to, and the taunting was the real problem, but he can't be suspended for that...

It all makes sense when you accept that Goodell has no beliefs, he merely runs for cover in reaction to moral outrage.

Sorry the Steeler's  helmet hits Burfict in the facemask then the helmet.  Check the replay from the steelers end zone, its pretty clear.  Its illegal all day long in 2017 and very dangerous. He could have chosen to hit him a little lower in the mid chest with the same devastating blocking effect  but he chooses to hit him high. Burfict is a dbag and the hit was karma but these players are idiots! Now JuJU SS will be targeted by the Bengals and the vigilante justice will go on.  Later in that game on the Brown TD he takes a wicked headshot from Bengals db.  How much evidence do this players need that headshots are devastating long term injuries.  It should be a hit to the head equals ejection and then min 1 game suspension.

There should be no controversy on the hit...it was 100% legal and clean hit.  You can literally see JuJu turn his head away from the impact prior to the hit to lay the shoulder.  Its 100% clear as day.  Burfict got the crap knocked out of him, and lets be honest, there about 100 guys in the NFL that would love to do the same to Burfict.

How anyone can watch that hit and call it dirty is beyond me.  This if professional football, big hits happen...and they make noise when they do.  JuJu didn't lead with the head, and if he gets any fines or suspension it will and should be over the unsportsmanlike display after the hit.

And its also BS if they give him a 1 game suspension over the taunting after giving Gronk just one game after his actions were 10 times worse.

Yeah, wrong rule. Not crackback, defenseless player. You are right.

I don't get the defenseless player.........Burfict was chasing the ball carrier.  You can't hit Burfict?  Burfict is not looking at anything except the ball carrier?  Head on a swivel?  Burfict should have been aware of his surroundings.

I appreciate all the info on the rules on this particular play as I didn't understand them all.  But, I don't get how Burfict was defenseless when he was chasing the ball carrier (laterally) and was 2-4 yards away from the ball carrier.  Flag football next up?

I am having more and more issues watching the NFL due to the Refs.  It is SOOO frustrating.  How many times are big plays and TDs called back.  The Refs are terrible and hopefully it improves now that some are full time Refs which can only help.

You can't hit high with the defender blindsided as that is considered defenseless.
